I posted about this a while ago looking for a value - I think the general opinion was barely more than scrap, my sister in law's car which has been unused for a year after it apparently conked out and was towed home. RAC guy "diagnosed" a jumped tooth, but the covers hadn't been off.
She now wants rid, so I thought I'd have a quick look over it.
The belt is intact. The oil and water are clean and correct. There are no obvious signs of leakage.
When it turns over, it turns over quite quickly - to my ears it sounds almost too easy to spin, but I'm not familiar with it - and there's a fuel smell. But no attempt to fire.
No taps, clunks, rattles or anything else to suggest bits of engine are hitting where they shouldn't. Just no attempt to start.
It's a very open ended question, I know, but I only had a few minutes to go over it. Could major engine damage (and indeed, a jumped tooth) have happened without me hearing it when it's turning over?
Still don't think it's worth the effort, but I might look for a quote to get it towed (it's a Selespeed, so not sure what's involved but as it's SORN/not MOTd I guess a flatbed is needed, and it's been parked for a year with the handbrake on...) and have a proper go at it with the multimeter and testers, see if I can make it live again.
