It's a 1.8 16v twin cam or a 1.9 16v twin cam - this is a change over year car by the looks of it as it's pre-facelift grill but being a 96 it could have either engine - pretty much same power/performance though.

thats guys,,,
the pics don't do the car justice,,, low mega pix camera,,
seen one today with e36 m3 bumpers..and m3 sunflower alloys.......made me think twice lol..
but she does have to go,,
