Wheels Day looks to have been another decent motoring-based day out for all those that attended.
Excellent.
Another show/gathering/meet in the South. There must be at least 5 or 6 such events for us Petrolheads to attend each month down that way and all along the coast, whereas anyone living slightly further North has an event a month if we are lucky.
I know, move, but it's not as simple as that really is it?
Just having a rant and wishing we had more to do in other parts of the country. I feel better actually, thanks for that (until the next event at the wrong end of the country...)

i predict you will get f-k all sympathy on here, judging by the conversations ive had with other members about people moaning things are 'too far' away. tell that to the ones who drive most of the way across the country, or even across from different countries, jsut for a weekend on the spanners/show/tat collecting mission, etc.- and theres LOTS on here who do.
isnt owning a classic/retro/unusual/modifed car all about enjoying driving it? so get in it and drive.........

Not looking for sympathy at all, been and done plenty of driving distances to events, and will do again.
I'm not alone in 'feeling the pinch' as it were, and funds for the crazy fuel prices we have and then extras on top are now proving a bit much as well as family commitments.
Like I say, not looking for sympathy, just needed a bit of a rant to vent some.
As for trying to organise something, been there and tried it, so much more of a headache than it should be, so all credit to those who do and can organise such events.

^^^^ This - Get out and drive - Last weekend I drove from Ireland to Switzerland - quit your moaning and explore. Last weekend was a 300-odd mile mini road trip with some others, left us all nigh-on skint! (Not all of us are blessed with bankersbonus paying jobs). I, and others, DO drive, as often as we can. I'm simply stating how many events etc are in the south compared to elsewhere. I'd like to know the reasons why? Probably a concentration of the population and all that?

I think there's a differing mindset across the regions. There have been many attempts (by me and others) to set up a Midlands meet, for example...but when you get locals moaning about having to drive 30 miles to a Breakfast meet, compared with the guys down in the South West who'll seemingly drive anywhere at the drop of a hat for some Retro action (witness the turnout at Brean a couple of weeks ago), it does make you wonder why you bother.

I hear you. Personally, happy to drive a bit, adds to the day naturally as driving is the best bit! Happened upon the same attitude when trying to organise before, that and people not having the time.

Thanks. I know why that meet itself is where it is, I am just lamenting about how there is a disproportionate number of meets/events/rallies/clubs etc in the South of this fair land. There are groups up and down the country, just many more located in the southern regions. One local group for instance, listed its 'meets' and upon going, there wasn't one. Just me, and a few others who had seen it listed online and turned up thinking that it was happening. After speaking to the other guys who turned up, this wasn't the first time with this group, or infact others in the area. Such a shame imo.

I'd drive to the moon to look at a pile of old toot - fuel can be a problem, but if you drive at night and chug along at 55mph, you'll be surprised how far you get on fumes would be nice if bruce coud move bristol a bit further north though... - kfw

People are more sociable in the south i find.People in the north tend to keep themselves to themselves.Thats why if you try to organise a meet 3 people turn up or non at all. Theres hardly any clubs like there is in the south so nothing gets organised. Ive pm`d someone on here about sharing a unit-no reply.I pass 2 retro`s on my drive to work and I'm lucky if i get a wave if anything at all.Down south they`d turn round for a chin wag. Id love a chance to live down south just for the meets and friendly people.

There are a few shows etc in the North East, but new meets seem to die very quickly as there is a constant niggling about the time/day/distance/venue etc.
I have tried starting up meets in the past and always get agro about these so called 'problems'

This lack applies to all sorts of events. Croft circuit has suffered and is down on events sadly, very little else motorsport wise. Occasional Hartlepool Autotest and the odd stage rally not too far away. Club mini-meets are fitful and badly promoted. Run-outs are very cliquey and marque-specific. Only the Malton Breakfast meet in recent times being a breath of fresh air.

How far 'oooop north' are you? There's always something going on at either Santa Pod of Shakespere County Also, keep your eye on Billing Aquadrome. They have both the Vauxhall owners club do and a big NRSA show
