As some of you are aware I am presently looking to buy a Mig welder. The model I have chosen after listening to all your comments and advice is the Clarke 160TE. For those not familiar with it it is a 150amp welder that is set up to take refillable bottles.
I am picking up a secondhand CO2 bottle this weekend which I beleive is of the 'Pub' type. I am told these need a different regulator/adaptor to the proper welding bottle regulators that the machines come with.
Can anyone please enlighten me as to what exactly I need and where I can get it from? Ideas of prices involved would also be appreciated.
Thanks for any help,
Regards, Smiler.

CO2 regulators are different to an argon regulator. The connection is different. Some of them you can swap the end piece but the majority these days you cant.

The 'pub' bottles i have take that same regulator as a normal argon/co2 mix bottle would.

Thanks for that. Looks like I've got a little bit more to spend. I can't see that I'll really need a twin gauge regulator. I might be as lucky as you slater and find mine will screw stright on but I won't hold my breath.
Thanks again for the help.
Cheers, Smiler.

Right, picked up the bottle today. It's got a handwhel on the top whcih I assume is just a simple open/close valve and not a regulator.

pub gas in winter can leave a brittle weld - according to a mechanic i know - you are better to mix argon too

Just pour in some argon and mix it up with a paint stirrer.

I have a pub bottle and I got the regulator at Machine mart for about £30. Look in your yellow paper for fire extinguisher agents as I get my bottle filled by one for £7. I know its not as easy as argoshield but I don't use the welder often enough to warrant a BOC account. Dave
