right guys first of all - I feel this isn't really general board stuff, and while it's not really technical either, I figure this is probably the best place for it (mods, feel free to bin it / move it as applicable) basically pollitt, in his usual style, has waited until I am actually on my knees financially, and then found exactly what I was looking for on the copart auction salvage site now, has anyone had any dealings with them? the registration process seems very convoluted, and the item finishes on monday, so I'm not even sure if we'll make it on time do you have a set time to pay / collect any won items? does anybody on here have / had / used copart before? any experiences with the whole process? not really looking for horror stories, more sort of 'llook at how well it went for me' kind of things really thanks - kev ps - I'm not letting on what it is, but it should fit in the back of the tathauler in one go if I am sucessful

I never got any further than regestering. I have collected other cars from the Wolverhampton branch for people in the past. I'll try and help best I can. Unless you know someone with a registered account, you'll never get sorted before Monday. You have to send off proof of address, bank details, etc. Not sure about the time to pay/collect, but there is a penalty if you don't collect within a certain amount of time (seen peoples invoices. Ouch!) Collection is fairly easy, but don't expect it to be as shown on the website. Ah, just noticed you didn't want bad news stoires, so I've just deleted a load of the post There are a few people on here that are registered, so a drink or two in their direction and I imagine you'll get it sorted. Good luck

cheers dan just rung em up - got a nice helpful chap, who reckoned I could *just* get registered in time for monday morning, but as you say, it involves sending half my paper life to them in some form or another what surprised me was the costs 50 quid to register, 60 quid bidding fees, 5 quid to bid online, 10 quid loading fees, VAT on top of all of it, and more fees if you collect it late I might still possibly consider it, but my god it's an eye opener who's going to lend me their account then - kfw

I thought it was Friday for some reason. Lol. Yes, you might just get it sorted then.
If your close enough to a branch to justify driving there, I think you can register in the office and your good to go that day.
I'd forgot, I have had a car from Copart. A friend brought the car just for some of the front end and I brought the rest of it off him. While taking the interior out I found the invoice. It cost £250 to buy then with all of the costs you mention above, VAT and I think he was a week late collecting it, it ending up at £600ish.

Why wouldn't you want to hear about bad experiences with them?bit of a blinkered attitude!!!
Copart are a huge American firm, they basically bought out (for huge sums of money) a number of successful/well known salvage yards in the uk,one of the most well known being d.hales.
I've dealt with them as a business and as a customer. As a business they were superb, very professional, superb. As a customer they were ok but bear in mind this. -the cars are very rarely as described, usually a lot tattier in real life -a lot are insurance jobs, particularly older stuff with light fire damage etc and very often hide major mechanical problems -the spare wheels are near enough always missing -the battery's are usually dead/replaced with a dud -the stereos usually missing/broken/no code -a lot of boys in the trade don't bother with them anymore as it's cheaper to buy a straight car -their not always honest/accurate about the damage category
Positives.
-delivery is really cheap -if your happy with what your buying it's a safer bet than eBay etc as that are a big firm -if the category is wrong you can get compo/refund if it's proven to be their fault -retro stuff usually goes for peanuts
Their charges are ridiculous, they charge you to load your own car etc and be aware their policies for what you can and can't take a car away in can be quite strict,I've seen some demand trailer or flatbed only,no dollies etc, often that's not their doing but that of the head office.
I'd be amazed if your not a business that they'll let you register but stranger things have happened.
Good luck with it all, negatives or otherwise these are important points to consider.

I buy from them regularly
You have ring to book a viewing
There is VAT on their charges, not on the price of the car
It's straight foward. Don't rely on their 'engine starts' statement. Expect tyres and batteires to be flat
I find them convenient and basically good. their charges are annoying but you don't have to use them.
