Hi, my latest daily run around is a 1996 Golf 1.9d. looking through the history theres no record of a cambelt change for over 80k.
I took the cover off today and the belt looks a bit old, anyway has anyone ever changed one of these with out all the locking pins.
I still have the tool for locking the tensioner from when I changed the belt on my old B2 Audi 1.6 about 5 years ago. All i did was mark all the pulleys and remove the belt and replace and retension, this was fine for the couple of years I had it. I have looked else were on the internet and everyone says that you need this tool and that tool but I don't really want to buy all this for a car that cost £250. Its worth putting a belt on it though as it not a bad old car really and it would be a shame to scrap it over a broken belt.
thanks Neil
