My daily seems to fail the mot every year with insecure CV boots, so each year I cable tie them back on.
Whats the best method method of keep them on for good?
I have just been to Halfords to get the crimping tool for steel cable ties, but typical halford they sell steel cable ties but not the tool to apply them....
Any hints tips or hidden secrets?

gp to a PROPPER car spares shop and buy the tool ? or you can use nail pullers/pincers to crush the metal ones but IME the pliers will need tubes over the handles to get the thing crushed, cable ties never last unfortunatly

Yeah will have to wait for the weekend, only reason i ever go to halfords is the fact there the only place open when i've finished work.

I always clean off any trace of grease from the area on CV joint and boot where they will touch before using cable tie. Never then had a problem with them comming off.

I've used these on the Esprit, very easy to fit using pliers and no chance of them coming undone. Can get them flipping tight too

I too have also tried cable ties and the metal 'universal' zip tie like CV joints. However, I could never get them to stay on, even with my best efforts of cleaning the CV and boot mating areas. On the inners I shall admit that it seems you can get away with cable ties.
A proper CV clip (well, like Scruff's) with the tool (same for undoing those one use breather pipe clips (if you know the ones I am referring to) does the job very well, or at least it has on the 205. Near me, almost all motor factors sell them (an independent, GSF, and ECP to name a few). You should find something to do the job near yourself.

Yeah, would agree that cv clips would be best but cable ties etc work just as well.

Why don't you cable tie it on for the retest, just incase the tool doesn't arrive before then?
