yep I switched regulator and tested charge on battery, it was still high at around 17/18
|

Where/how did you test the battery? With a brand new regulator you shouldn't be getting that into the battery though most regs are adjustable I believe.

Had a guy who reconditions parts test it out with his meter reader thingy, tested it first with old reg and it was 17, switched wiring to new reg and it was the same. If alternator was faulty could that be pumping too much charge to battery or is charge solely controlled by regulator?

solely by the regulator. Sounds like you have other issues if a new regulator is showing the same symptoms. Definitely wired correctly?

That's the thing I'm unsure about wiring, it says high medium and low on the regulator and for some reason there's wires on all 3, but I was running it like this for some weeks before the problems started
