It looks like the 1.8 - 90 bhp lump I have in my Passat start to have some issues, so instead of spending time and cash to fix it - I have started to think about replace the whole thing. 90 bhp is what people have in their mopeds these days too.
On eBay I can see plenty of 2nd hand VW engines for sale, and the ppl who sell them is not asking big bucks for them as well.
I have tought about the 1.8 turbo engine (used in Golf, Passat, etc) but I'm not keen on turbos and its sounds just like a VW 4 pot engine - who means dull. (I used to have an Alfa with a V6 engine, and a BMW with a V8 to an information) So I like that a engine have some nice tones from the exhaust. So I have tought more and more about the V5 engine - mostly used in the Golf and Bora - and I have spent some time on YouTube - and the soundtrack from it, can some how make me think back on the V.A.G rally era with the UR Quattro flying intro the forest with the lovely sound of a 5 cylinder powerplant under the hood.
Its sound smashing! ;D
So my question is:
When you install engine like this, do you also use the gearbox - or can I use the original gearbox on my 1.8 ABS engine?
