OK, so ive done the decent thing and bought the firebird as recently seen in the classifieds here.......... retrorides.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=FSW&action=display&thread=108613My plan is as with all my previous yanks for it to be a daily. Then i realised i know 'nothing' about them. So can any kind hearted RR'er with some knowledge to spare enlighten me as to thing like..... whats tranny is fitted to these and what power is my 305 rated at from the factory? And obviously to follow, what can be done fairly easily to increase it. And lastly for now, is it wearing Trans Am GTA wheels? Ta folks.

Will be 150-155bhp on that year iirc, but 240-ish ft/lbs so will cruise along nicely but won't be fast.

Cheers folks. So, no powerhouse of a lump, it makes the right noises though as mentioned, which is nice.

As said, thirdgen.org is your source. Good bunch of guys on there.
Usual mods such as headers, free flow exhaust, etc. will liberate a little power but to make any serious bump you need to cure the low compression and source a decent cam for it. TBH if you are making that much effort you may as well fit a 350.
A 305 Firebird shouldn't be slow. Just not "fast".

Oooh, a third gen buddy! I have a 305 on a manual box. If u want to go manual it's a T5 box these run, but it's a lot of associated kit that's also required. I'm doing some rudimentary tuning to mine, the build threads in my sig.

Most of the parts are interchangeable with the 350 lump aswell. From what I have been told better fuel economy and better on the 1/4 mile than a stock 350 aswell.
We need pictures.
Cheers,
Stu.

The stock 305s are nowhere near as quick as the 350s, 305 h/o's arent far off though think they're about 190bhp vs 220bhp for the 350s. All iirc from when my mate had one.

Stu, pics will be forthcoming when i pick it up Ive been doing some internet trawling and vin number decoding. It appears to be a 1987 car, i think anyway, because it has the type of seat belt restaraints fitted in the vin number, which 86 cars didnt appear to have, i thought it was 86, learning already overdrive, i had totally missed your thread, i shall go read it now.
