I seem to have missed a whole generation of cars. I know the old stuff intimately and the new stuff I can usually recognise but stuff thats a bit older I just don;t know. Especially when its a bit oddball. In the US I came across a vehicle which had me scratching my head. It looked for all intents and purposes like a Vauxhall Frontera Mk1. I only saw the side and the rear as it passed me and it was only the one badge I could see which made me think...
on the tailgate it said "1.3" and then "Rotary Power"
This was when I got interested but could not pass it to see the sides or front again.
Its not a Vauxhall, cos they didn;t sell them there. I know theres an Isuzu version but they didn;t have rotary engines. The thing looked stock so I'm guessing its not an RX7 transplant (It would have had stickers, wheels, tints, paint or something then). The badge looked stock fit, it was as dirty/faded as the rest of the car.
Some form of Mazda Mini SUV?
Anyone any idea?
Its just got me curious now - c'mon JDM-philes...

SWB. The sort that has a lift off top like a Jeep Wrangler or a Discovery SWB.
It could be a mad rebadge, but other than to confuse the pants off people like me, why would you do it? To a bone stock vehicle?

It was also the Isuzu MU, which stood for mysterious utility ;D and Honda Jazz and I think mazda might have had a version of it, if not someone else did

Something wacky going on.
There are no factory rotary (ie Mazda) SUVs (utes, trucks, whathaveyou) of any description since the 70s REPU.
Therefore: kustom.
Not that uncommon. There's at least one Hilux (Lo-lux) in Oz getting about with a rotary.
EDIT: "Rotary Power" was on the REPU tailgate. So perhaps someone has done a kustom "modern" REPU with a Mazda B2600 or similar.

Sounds very REPU like, but I can't find anything to suggest production after 1977?
