Oh yes! Saab Turbo lump under the bonnet, intercooler strapped to the outside, one headlamp replaced with intake ram / filter... That'd look the shizzle!

Gah. People keep going on about the Saab lump but I'm still pretty sure it would not work at all well......... Then again, you can make anything fit with enough persuasion. But why bother when you can eek 220BHP out of the Sprint.....make a great noise! I think a blown rotary would add that required J tang There's an SR20DET one in existance too with about 400bhp...drift slag.... We got Darrens anyway, that's getting there ;D And Phil's, which is having a 360BHP TVR AJP installed as we speak... And the older race cars.... and the German touring cars... ..for some inspiration

I'm pretty sure it would require just as much work as putting in a Zetec or XE... I just suggested it because of the link between Triumph and Saab... and I'm a fan of "same family" car / engine transplants.

The inherent problem with the Saab engine is the manifold and turbo do not have anywhere to go, so you've got a bit of a piping snafu, that's all. Remember the engine slants so the exhaust manifold, or any extra equipment that has to go in that area, is a critical area of concern The bellhousing and the engine being again, reversed the wrong way to fit in the correct orientation could also raise complications...but I guess, it could be worked around. I'd rather a nice big huffy turbo lump with a bit more potential tho like an SR20 ;D What are these rims blownimp ;D

there is a guy writing in to retro cars mag asking if a saab engine will fit in his dolly - retro cars says a big phat no.
i always love those letters saying 'i have a 1918 ford model T and was wondering if the v6 engine from a modern 2002 mondeo will bolt strait in as I'm not getting very good performance on the motorway on the way to work and all the execs in their BMWs are motoring past...'
and the ED always replies saying 'SHUT IT YOU PEEN A.R.S.E! the mere fact you asked that question renders you spanner dyslexic'

I'd encourage anyone to have a go though - they're either going to crash and burn like that bloke that lost in Dayz of Thunda or they're going to learn veeeery quickly and become an engine swap legend ;D

Don't DO that! You're making me think rude thoughts if plans for a 1300 FWD come to fruition!

I'm with Lewis. I'm pretty sure that the Saab Turbo thing IS NOT the way to go. Now I'm no expert, but I had a good nose around Russell's 1850 when he was blathering about Saab Turbo's... the angle of the dangle of the engine means NO WAI! However, I think there may be some mileage in using some 'tried and tested' modern swappage in a Dolly.... need to do more measuring, but I think the 'classic' Zetec + Type 9 could be persuaded in there

I don't think those would fit on a FWD, the offset is fubar on them What kind of money are you looking for them? Some for the record : Gotta love the lack of chrome on the early FWDs, really do look the part - like the earlier chrome rear surround too Funny how often the earlier versions of cars look so much cleaner before they become adorned with safety features and additional trim, isn't it...

A 2.3 9000 lump might be interesting. Easily tuned to 350+ bhp. It's the same basic lump but mounted transverse in the 9K...possibly less complications than a 900 engine (with it's underslung gearbox...)
depends how mad you are really for weird engine installs ;D
