The 'Wheels borrowed from other makes' thread has pushed me over the edge into finally asking how they do it.
Swapping wheels between manufacturers who use the same PCD makes sense.
How on earth do you get 5x120 BMW wheels onto Japanese 5x114.3 hubs, or L200 rims onto a VW Vento?
I want to know because I need ET0 (ish) offset to go onto 4x114.3 for the Scimitar. Choices are limited for off-the-shelf in that fitment. Anyway I'd like to explore a more inventive solution, like BMW 5-series or 4x4 rims.

you can use wheel adapters(wheel spacers) so you can change the stud pattern

yeah, most likely pod adapters they're usually canny hefty, 20mil+ so that should help you get the et0 you're after too. popular sizes are usually available off the shelf, but you can get them custom made if you're after something more unusual.

Understood. I see them available in common combinations, but the some of the combinations I see (and am considering) suggest custom made items.

So maybe my question is where can you get them made, and for how much?

If you go to a local machining shop they should be able to help you make a spacer. I had a set made from mild steel. I gave them an old wheel to measure how it fitted to the hub (so the adapter was hub-centric) then gave them the PCDs and the nut I would be using and they charged me about £200 for it. Maybe a touch more. In my case it was 4x130 to 5x130 so I used one of the four studs as a shared one (sleeved nut goes all the way through from the wheel) then the other 3 studs bolted the adapter on. Then the adapter had helicoiled threads inserted and the wheel bolted to that!

Could you not fit hubs from another car also?

Could you not fit hubs from another car also? Probably possible, but pretty much guaranteed to need machining. I made a set about 12 years ago for my old Sprintfire to fit Vauxhall fitment alloy wheels on it. I used aluminium with helicoil thread inserts. Used to drive that car hard (including round Mallory at RRG 07) and never had a problem.

Hey Dominoka, those wheels look amazing on the Vento. I'm sure they're a major talking point. I guess the adaptor is hub-centric, but the wheels are lug-centric on the adaptor ?
Do you mind me asking who machined those? From the reg. it looks like you're up north too.
