Well, all was going well with the replacement new rack and the coilover setup right up until last friday. On my way home after a bit of a back road detour I thought the front end felt a bit floaty and there was a knocking noise from the drivers side front "thats alright" thought I, shall have a quick look under the front when I get home and see which droplink has quit.Get home and scrabbled underneath to find all the drop links ok, and nothing suspicious Shall get it on the ramp tomorrow at work and have a further investigate! So last Saturday I get it up in the air to investigate and I'm confronted with this That's not good, what's happened there? Appears to have snapped the damper shaft at the end just behind the threaded section with the bearing on, so I shall be ordering up a new pair of coilovers and stiffer springs at some point when funds allow

No picture updates this time I'm afraid! However, the replacement coilover and 850lb 7inch springs have brought new levels of smoothness to the cars road manners Not got any conformation yet as to whether it pops an inner wheel when cornering yet either And I am now booked in to finally get the bloody thing mapped up properly at Track N Road on the 22nd of this month

Well, at Track N Road and currently having heat issues Bloody typical luck for me I guess. Shall hopefully be all sorted tonight tho and I'll be a happy chappy

Didn't get many pics on the day unfortunately And only a couple of vids. But, I have got one of the genius at work And the other one tried to get something artistic And a couple of vids (but no 6000rpm power runs before anyone asks , just didnt think in time)

Well, all ok til coming back through Eastbourne from the airbourne show when the new coilover on the drivers side snapped at the rod end So another new coilover shall be ordered, and some new lower suspension arms are being made up

Hi It sounds like you need to find out why they keep breaking as well !!!
Adam Indeed! Especially as there appears to be nothing binding or catching at all any where on the suspension. The only possible explanation is that I had them fitted inverted and from trying the last replacement coil over before fitting the valving doesn't like being the wrong way up

Are you still running bump stops? Just wondered if they were bottoming out.if theres not enough travel there,itd have to break somewhere.did it break in the same place both times?

Yup, still running bumpstops. And the arms will run out of travel on the original bumpstops before bottoming out on the coilover bumpstops anyway All had broken in the same place, so I can only assume that the damper valve bodies didnt like being inverted. Especially as it drives better with them the other way up now as well

Has anyone had any dealings with either Honeybourne mouldings or Smith and Deakin for fibreglass front wings on the mk2 Granada? Need to sort out my poorly offside front one at some point and if the fit of either is good enough I'll get one ordered up

Ive seen deakin side skirts and they look very good but obviously someone may of had to spend hours prepping them.if your going for weight id fight it out with a pattern wing as they probably weigh less than a well made fibreglass one Not worried about the weight that much Mr, was more the panel fit really. Shall see what the insurance company say about grp panels before getting one though

sorry mate,i got binned at wheelchair rugby last night so never got to go into the loft. put plasters on my old man batterred hands and then called it a day.will do it today straight after work and see what the wing in my loft looks like for you.will send text pics

On my way home from seeing the other half and our tiddler on Sunday I had developed a James Bond style smoke screen After a couple of stops to try and find the cause, some dippy git hadn't put the oil filler cap back on properly So sorted that little problem and made my way again. Nearly got the Sevenoaks and pulled away from a leafy junction a tad too enthusiastically and thought I'd punctured a tyre. Drove a little bit further very cautiously to a safe spot to have a look at the back tyres and the driveshafts and nothing obvious. "Sod it, I'll nurse it home as far as I can and see if it breaks". Got about 100yards along from where I'd stopped and the car had magically fixed itself. Not trusting it 100%, I'll have a look at work on Monday. Up on the MOT ramp and the nearside driveshaft feels a bit odd. luckily had a couple of new CV joints at home so I fitted them on Tuesday night. (at 188553miles) I don't think the grease inside them is supposed to resemble grinding paste is it? And a struggle with just 1 out of the 12 bolts that hold the driveshaft in

I don't bother struggling with the bolts.i just drop a grinding disc on them and after a few seconds they're finger loose.obviously you need new bolts afterwards.read about the oil smoke in the "Ashford Times",rumour was that VW were road testing a new Jetta.
