Hi folks.
I 've had this pug about 7 months.
I bought it as i've never really had french before, and after my 1.7D astra was too boring to drive, I picked up this little thing.
Purchased from a garage, it came fully serviced, motd and with new brakes all round. Was told its had a new timing belt, but zero proof.
I used it for work (50 miles a day) until last week when I was given a 1.6 mk4 golf. Its a bit more economical so i'm using that now.
Anyway,
When I bought it, it was totally standard and very tidy indeed.
I then looked into them on the net, and found they make very good track cars. (basically same 2.0 16v engine as gti6/xsara vts)
Nippy as hell and handle like a go kart - even better now.
Its been a few years since i've done anything on track - so set about getting it ready.
I stripped the back half interior and de-wipered. I have everything to go back on the car to take it back to standard.
Then set about adding a few mods (listed below)
Stuff thats been done (mostly at my mates garage):
Avo Top Adjustable Shocks (hard>soft) and springs on front (crazy money!)
GTi6 Big Inlet Manifold & Throttle body
Bigger Injectors (Standards back in for fuel economy)
4 branch exhaust Manifold
Induction Kit with ducting (in original battery box below bonnet vent)
Free flowing back box
Battery box & Relocate Battery behind passenger seat
Fire extinguisher
Bonnet pins
Spare bonnet cut for pins/air vent
Suede OMP style Steering Wheel
3 point Harnesses
Removed:
Air Con Gubbins
Rear Seats/trim/wash-wipe
Passenger air bag
Stuff that needs done:
Passenger harness needs fitted (10 min job - will do this at weekend)
Fuel Pump cut off switch (Supplied, fit it if you want)
Front tyres nearing limit (was gonna get some decent grippy ones put on so was getting as much out of these as I could)
Brakes are recent and fine, but oem spec, so wouldnt stand upto much track use
Ideally the harnesses should be bolted through the 'tunnel' with spreader plates on the back
You may want to lower the back end by winding the torsion bar down to make it handle even better - but its a hoot as it is!
The airbag light is on the dash as the wheel has been changed, I have a 'shunt resistor' to fix it but needs fitted. (two wires to soldier inside steering wheel boss)
I was gonna put some bucket seats in, but to be honest the standard ones are comfy and fairly 'huggy' with it being and XSi.
The only bad thing is there is some wear on the drivers seat bolster, small crack on the front bumper thanks to a phesant and a small dent in the door. Its coming up to 15yr old so the odd age related mark here and there but nowt drastic.
The exhaust isnt mental loud, but sounds fairly meaty if you press the go pedal, and pops and bangs like billy-o on overrun
I have everything to go back on the car to take it back to totally standard, with exception to the exhaust and suspension.
I'll put all the trim and original parts in the boot along with the silver bonnet so you can but it standard if thats your thing.
Car was used daily till last week, 50 miles a day without any issues at all, even over winter.
I get about 32-35mpg in general use, have had mid 40s on a run.
Just needs decent tyres and brakes to finish it off for a cheap track toy. Or spend an afternoon bolting evertything back in.
Its never seen the track yet, and my plans for this year are to possibly move in with my other half, and i'm only allowed to take 1 car lol.
If it doesnt sell for what i'm asking, i'll just hide it somewhere till I can get some fun out of it.
Still got T&T but should re-mot (end of july 2012) no probs once airbag light and front tyres replaced. I suppose if you get a fussy tester he may complain about exhaust note?
Very tidy underneath. No other issues.
Can take pics of anything you like to see in detail on the car.
Not really after any swaps as need to dwindle my fleet down (reason above), but as always, if theres something uber interesting or a nice luxo-barge, I can always give my current daily 'golf' to our lass as a present, and I can roll in style
Few various Pics:
I will get it washed and some better pics taken this week.
Cheers,
Wez
