1978 280 to be precise. A mate has just bought one (turns out it used to belong to his grandmother about 4 owners ago) and it has some horrible van style hub caps on it. What do people put on these as replacement rims? What looks good?
Can anyone also point me towards the brown Mercedes (the low low low one) owned by a member here... I can't remember his username.
And finally, anyone have any interesting pics of 280s?
Cheers guys!

If you go with 17" wheels try and fit them first. I had some on my 190E and they rubbed like a tw*t. It was so bleeding annoying I sold them in the end!

The old 300CE (late `60s) had lovely finned style alloys, try and find some of them, doubt it`ll be easy but they`d look just right on a W123.

What chassis model is your 280..a W108 or W114?. W108's can take a rim of 16" diameter with high profile tire and 7" wide but a W114 can only go 6 1/2" wide because their is't too much room in the front wheel house, especially by the steering box. Lower a W114 and the rims will rub against the shock mount pressings on the inner wing. The 300SE rims mentioned are called Bundt's,but 14" are the only option and you don't want them because there aren't any Hi perf tires in that size anymore. 15" rims are around but they are RARE and EXPENSIVE!!!. Ebay item number 200038103109 I have a set of the rarest ones...Michelin TRX alloys in the same style, they use gold plated tires,i have 4 rims and One tire. ;D ;D

Many years ago I changed my driving style to cope with rising fuel prices; I have now reached the stage where I am contemplating keeping my eyes shut in order to lower wind resistance.

Lower a W114 and the rims will rub against the shock mount pressings on the inner wing. I've got 8.5J x 16's on my W115. There's not a lot of space under there but I went for 215 / 40 / 16 tyres on the front and solved any rubbing problems (with a bit of hammering of the arches) If your mate's is a '78 it'll be a W123 or a W116. I reckon AMG Pentas look awesome - like tonycocacolas.

Hrm, I'll have to link him here and see what he says. I don't think that he'll be too into the wires idea. I like the idea of those 300SE rims, but who knows what we'll be able to find over here.
