[quote author=andy998imp board=general thread=1161419727 post=1161424222and not content with a basic speed camera they now have cameras which work out your average speed over a set distance so even if you speed up and then slow down you still get nabbed.(m60 near stockport btw even on the slips roads too!) [/quote] I work in transport. The cameras they've got at the moment can't get you if you change lanes, allegedly (i take no responsibility if this doesn't work, however.)

Its like Pog says- The trouble with the motoring public is we never do anything about it apart from getting angry and then probably toddle off for some 'shopping therepy' to forget all about it. If enough people protested about these issues by boycotting the payments it simply wouldn't and couldn't go ahead. End of! Does anyone know of a definitive 'active' group who think along these lines too? I'd happily join.

A lot of people have got too much to lose to risk Jail for £60 when it comes down to it. If I get stung by some silly fine or other I always give it a run round the block and try and get out of it somehow, and this sometimes works, a lot of these things can be gotten around really easily and I`m not talking about convoluted lies or stories that can get you in deeper just a few simple actions and a bit of riding it out.
If it starts getting silly though, and notices of committal to prison start turning up well thats when to start thinking about surrender but at least you`ve tried.

If it starts getting silly though, and notices of committal to prison start turning up well thats when to start thinking about surrender but at least you`ve tried. But that's just my point Vic. If everyone, and I mean everyone said 'Stuff you, I'm not paying 4 times over in tax to drive somewhere', then they couldn't possibly chase everyone, and might quickly realise that the long suffering motorist had finally been pushed too far. It's like with those old biddies they send to jail for not paying inflation-busting council tax rises. If everyone said screw you, then they can't put anyone in jail. We're told to behave ourselves, and if we don't we get a nasty letter and a CCJ and a visit from the baliffs. All this means is we can't get yet another credit card or 52-plate astra on tick..... is that so important? (admittedly it screws you for mortgages, but lets not dwell on that now)..... There needs to be a stand. It cannot go on forever - you can't have toll charging AND 85% fuel duty AND road fund licence AND a terrible public transport infrastructure. You gotta raise revenue, sure, but not by such ridiculous means.

Youre absolutely right, I try and play the system everytime someone tries to get money off me they don't deserve, but I feel unsupported. Last time I tried to get off with a speeding fine (62 in a 50 that had been NSL 3 weeks before, totally unpopulated area with no pavements) I was doing really well, I strung it out for ages playing letter tennis but in the end they pursued it relentlessly and were going to suspend my driving licence, I like driving for one thing and I`m a motor trader, they had me by the nads. I just thought at the time that if everyone else wasnt so obedient and handed in their money straight away, but instead messed them about like I did, they probably wouldnt have the resources to get to everybody and I would have had a chance - safety in numbers and that. So yeah, people need to stick together on these things but unfortunately most people don't, they just lose their nerve too early and take a shafting. As for letters about debts - much easier! And it doesnt screw you for mortgages forever, you`ve just got to sweat it out for 6 years, and by the time 7 years have passed you should be able to get a mortgage.

forogot about toll roads oops trouble is that soooo many industries rely on road transport that people will pay up,they have us over a barrel and unless something drastic is done then we will get continually walked all over. 10 years from now, some one will be able to stand up and say " this country is has no greenhouse emissions" and forget to add that we have no industry,no employment, food, tourism, electricity etc etc. every industry i can think of relies in some way in road transport and if that costs more nearly everything we buy will end up costing us more, unless the government includes one of their wonderful schemes that exempts certain parties and then it will be abused to curse word by non deserving whinge bags claiming exemption.problem for joe motorist that the scheme will be so confusing and complicated that we wont be able to understand it .

I say bring in road tolls on all roads. bring on satellite-based tracking with a bill at the end of the month for how far you've travelled. Bung in there the insurance too. Heck even monitor speed using it (although you'll still need cameras for proof) With two provisos:
* Don't reduce the number of police on the road, thinking you've got a spy in the sky. Satellite tracking and pay-per-mile does not make us better drivers. * Scrap road fund licence and the tax (or a large chunk of it) on fuel.
My reasoning being I pay just as much road fund, living 4 miles from work and driving on average less than 70 miles a week, as someone who drives ten times that. My insurance also barely changes with the amount of miles I tell them I do, tests on a quote website showed only about £40 difference between 6000 miles and 20000 miles per year. No doubt this covers those who say "yeah mate, i only do a mile a week" and then just claim a faulty speedo in the event of an accident.
As long as the average driver (what is it these days, 15,000 miles a year) doesn't pay more than they do right now for a reasonably efficient car, i say it benefits those who use it less. Chances are those who drive more than that do it for company reasons and will get it paid for them.

thats the problem Mr P,it won't .we will all end up paying more, much more.in my little illustration i worked out to to go work and back would cost me £180 black box road tax,on top of fuel, insurance and wear and tear.then on top of that my own mileage.fr'instance if i go and see my mum and dad in london, largley m'ways all the way, ,a 500 mile round trip could cost me best part of £500! coachs are cramped (i'm 6'1) and infrequent ,don't go anywhere near my parents house, trains stink and are pricey, and don't go anywhere near their house.i wouldn't consider myself a high mileage user,in fact i'm walking to work now (changed jobs ) but if i had stayed put i would have had to change jobs anyway.

ive been saying it for ages and i want to stand up amongst a huge group of motorists and say 'NO MORE' but the motrist in britain must be a bit of a masochist cuz they all seem to enjoy this torture. i've frankly given up on it and will endeavour simply to flaunt the rules by underhand methods, I'll have one MOTD taxed car but they don't know so much about the rest... please? will anyone stand up (not slim shady, like a real person plz)

>:(well i just got back from the ace and can safely say that unless they move the ace cafe outta london then i will not be going there again i have been there about 4 times and every time we go we tangled up in some sort mess on the roads and every time its just a worse place to be sorry i don't care what anyone says london has no improvments going on what so ever . the evidence: 1: the roads in london are a total joke 3 lanes down to on lane back up to 2 lanes ect,, all for reason whatso ever eccept to cause traffic jams 2: pot holes in the roads due to badly made and maintained roads road fund lisence my what bloody roads are they funding blairs drive way? 3:road signs that don't give correct information due to badly run road systems due to that twatt livingstone 4:traffic lights every 200ft that let out 3 cars at a time and are all timed so if you get through one set of lights you will have to stop at the next thus making traffic so you car ends up using more fuel . my car does around 25mpg iflled it with fuel before i left up till we had hit the dump(formaly known as london) the gauge had hardly moved 20 miles and nearly 2 hours i'm down to half a tank smae on the way home so now i'll have to get more fuel to last me the week all due to that twatt livingstone poor(or is it a scam) running of the dump formaly known as london and 5:london is such a crappy place sorry to any of you living there but it realy is a sh@t hole and i don't ever want to go there again sorry for the rant there ;D carry on

seriously though, whats wrong with enforcement cameras? I'm not the most law abiding driver, i admit it. I'm sure we all speed sometimes. But ive never been done for speeding etc, there really not that hard to avoid. I North America where traffic light cameras are common they have been found to increase the number of accidents as people slam on their brakes as soon as the lights turn yellow and get rear ended. Luckily speed cameras are non-existant back home (Canada). They were brought in by two provincial governments who were promptly voted out of office when the opposition party's ran a platform of getting rid of them. I'm not holding my breath though. David Cameron seems to think he can only get elected by being like Blair. Oh yeah, and in most jurisdictions over there, no Road Tax, and no MOT. Insurance does tend to be a little more pricey if its private (many provinces have government insurance companies - cheap but often set up as a no fault system which means poor payouts if you get hurt).

Yeah this pisses me off too, so either don't vote the government in or go and vote in the first place as opposed to having the apathy that we have in this country.
p.s. I am positive there must be legal ways to challenge the majority of these schemes.
