Stop it! it's curse word me off... and this chap doesn't like it either This was a community built around positivity and looking for the best in things, in the past few weeks it has turned into a forum where things are being constantly bashed. If you don't like something, don't comment on it.

Funny you mention this really. I was saying to the guys at the Beds Meet how refreshing it was coming to a forum where elitism doesn't rule. I could name a couple of forums that I used to frequent where you were slated for 'thinking outside the box' The openness, general laid back attitude and helpfulness makes a relative noob like me feel welcome. That's what attracted me here (that and the love for old clunkers )

IMHO not liking something and saying so is OK as long as the comments are polite and not offensive. I'm happy for anyone not to like any of my cars and to say so on here, but I don't want to be called names or see my pride and joy slated and attempted to be humiliated either. That happened on the P.C. forum, and it turned into somewhere quite unpleasant at the time. [Very much unlike R-R. 8-)and it's never happened here.]

Yeah, I'd noticed quite a bit of this recently - creeping in like. I suppose its inevitable when a forum starts to grow and attracts more users - I'm all for spreading the word, not into eliteism etc but I enjoy coming on this forum to chill out and have a laugh - a release if you like from all the none believers. Lets try and keep it that way. My advice - if anyone is feeling negative, don't take it out in a new post. Have a 10 minute click through the OOF thread and all your troubles will be forgotton. Here's the only kind of negativity we'll allow...

I`ve made a few negative comments about things on here lately, namely the coolest capri and nigel mansells tipo. Now those comments could have been took the wrong way, but they were all made in good humour and there were no comments made with regards to who owned the cars just the cars theirselves. I like to think most posts I make are made in a similar way to a regular conversation, which would be more like my regular speaking style rather than in traditional queens english.(If that makes sense) Does this mean in future that no comments like these should be made. What about discussion threads which many people start, choosing a picture of a car modified in a love em or hate em style (donks are a good case in point), does this mean that in future these would be one sided discussion with no negative comments. I am not trying to be awkward here I am just trying get a clearer understanding of the rules of what can and cant be posted so that I don't offend anyone in the future

HotWire in da house: This was a community built around positivity and looking for the best in things, in the past few weeks it has turned into a forum where things are being constantly bashed. If you don't like something, don't comment on it.
Now that you point that out it must be why I have lately been reading less and not posting much in here, sure fall is here and some in here lost out on all the fun this summer (not getting their rides done), sure all the fun of cruising with your Crew is almost over, sure we are all going back into the darkness of our garage for the winter but that's NO reason for ruining the general mood of this place....
Go out and create, dream up new modifications to your rides, plan for all the shows next summer, cruise E-bay for that elusive part, have fun with tools and parts, I know I'm doing this right now and drawing up plans to kick butt at Custom Bike Show 2007......
DP says: The (Show) summer is over but there's a new around the corner, keep the faith Retroisti.....

Theres nothing wrong with Marmite threads and its good to provoke an opinion out of someone - I'd hate to see people leaving because they felt they couldn't give an honest critisism.
I suppose i was talking about snidey replies to other peoples opinions. I have seen a few of those dotted about.

i must admit, i hadnt noticed anything particularly negative
i don't think we all need to reply to this and apologise or justify whats been said etc
at the end of the day, everyone on here is pretty sensible. Theres no harm in being critical, as long as its creative and expressed in a non-abusive way.
As long as no-one takes offence, and no-ones car takes an unnecessary slagging then there should be no problems
id hate for people to be biting there tongue worried about what they can and cant say. As far as i was aware people said what they thought on this forum, its just we have a fairly positive and creative attitude

I agree re: negative postings.... I had one rather nasty one some time back when I asked for advice about period stickers for one of my cars.

If we just think to ourselves...what if the owner/designer was actually reading this? Would they be offended?
Constructive critisism is one thing, and I'm full of ideas to make things better ;D, but a big heap of negativity thrown at people who don't deserve it isn't helping anyone.

I have noticed a bit TBH, So long as its not offensive, and it is constructive and open minded, a bit of a debate is ok but I have noticed a change of route. Like the others above said I like it here because we are like minds, as in we appreciate diversity and thinking outside the box. anyone into the straight and narrow and lack of understanding will in theory get bored. My Sig says it all for me how proud I am of our community... ..and we will get 'transitmk3' in a Transit Mk3, and it will have a mod or two even if it is just a pair of fluffy dice. another new asset to the place

Does this mean in future that no comments like these should be made. What about discussion threads which many people start, choosing a picture of a car modified in a love em or hate em style (donks are a good case in point), does this mean that in future these would be one sided discussion with no negative comments. My problem isn't with comments saying "I don't really like this because..." my problem is with coments like "It's curse word, the person is obviously mentally deranged" etc. etc. They belong somewhere ridiculous, like Barry Boys. I'll not have it here because it beings the ambience of the board down. There are members here who are negative with just the slighest provocation, there are others trying to emulate the Mr_Bollox style of posting... we have one Mr_Bollox, and thats more than enough.

I'm just grateful that this forum is fairly rounded in its scope, it pretty much covers all types of car ownership.
And while I'm here, I'm also grateful for the lack of 'txt' talk and some consideration to use the spell checker!

It's all about good moderation and know when to step in if things look as if they are getting out of hand. I used to post loads on a well know VW Forum, and went on one night, and posted up a well don't to a football team on the chat forum, and got what can only be described as a diatribe of abuse and "come and see me next time you are at a show, and we can sort this out face to face!" and various keyboard warrior threats. I love this place and as I said on the "I love RR thread!" I really do feel at home here, and I have not seen any bad mouthing or abuse... Well unless you start sputing that your Nova can pull 80 in second...You are just asking for it are'nt you.... The day an hour the posts on here start changing to "Whatcha doing right now!" ,"I have lost 800 stone this week!", "Whatcya favourite pants!" Then I am outta here... but I don't see that happening.

i hope i've not been too negative,i always try to have a balanced view on things, different is nessecesarily wrong etc and that cars are like ugly children-someone somewhere loves it,but everyones taste is different and thats what makes this forum great, you get to hear/see the flip side of things and see things in a different light.i readily admit i HATED mini's before i came here but after seeing some on readers cars etc (especially the john deere one) i have been converted hallelujah ;D and i view skodas differently too also.

I've been surprised at some of the cars that have come in for criticism recently - the TVR Golf springs to mind. Unconstructive negative comments are pretty worthless, but I don't think there's anything wrong with saying "I don't like it because............." or "I don't think it's worth that much because........." - I know that's not what you're unhappy with HTW. I'd hate to see people shying away from discussions or holding back on their opinions because they worry it's too negative though - I think people should speak their minds. A thread full of sycophantic "I love that!" and "Taht pwns!!1111!!!!1!!" would be pretty boring too (I'm guilty of such posts as much as the next man, I'm not having a go at anyone)
