	Do these things have a common problem with their gearboxes going wrong ?? I have a mate ( havent seen or heard this personally ) , that has one and apparently theres an odd click or whine at no particular given interval. I'm told it SOUNDS like a suspension bush/anti roll bar going wrong. Can anyone tell me if these things have a history of going wrong gearbox wise, a local garage ( to her ) have told her its the gearbox and it'll be a million pounds to fix....... Sorry, to precis, mk4 golf v6 four motions, do the gearboxes play up ? cars done about 130k... thank you.

	Probably a long shot, and not gearbox related, but I had one of these and found the rear springs had snapped at MOT time, which led to various odd noises but not as many as you'd expect! On reading up at the time, that was very common to these cars. I replaced all springs with an Eibach lowered set as it was cheaper to do that that just get rear OEM ones as it happened. As for the gearbox, I've never heard of any issues. Does the gearbox work ok? Mine, like a lot of modern VW's, didn't have the best shift but seemed to handle the power ok etc. and not make any funny noises. You might be better asking on ClubGTI as a few people run these over there
