So, I've been chopping and changing cars a lot recently, having lots of fun for very little money. I landed on this little MGF a couple of weeks ago and have been genuinely surprised. But I've just received a job offer and a shiny new company car arrives this weekend, so sadly this has to go. To make matters worse the new one is a h.....a h......a hy......well let's just say at some point I need a dirty great V8 to make up for the company tree hugging mobile. Anyway, back to the MG...
It's a Tahiti Blue 1996 MGF VVC - meaning it has the sportier 143bhp engine. Due to a recent engine rebuild it feels like most of those horses are still in the stable too! The car has 12 months MOT, and I've just taxed it for six months. I paid £800 for it two weeks ago and £118 for the tax. It's eligible for classic insurance.
It's had three new tyres, the rebuild by CB Engineering in Burton on Trent (I don't have paperwork for this, it belonged to Gareth who owns CB Engineering. He rebuilt the car for himself but only did 250 miles in it due to being busy at work.) The soft top has no tears in it, and has a clear rear window. It also has the leather tonneau cover, and an additional flip up wind deflector which is very handy.
The MG has a Sony CD player fitted, and has had a chrome lighter/ashtray cover added at some point. It still has it's MG mats and all of the books, along with both keys and fobs. It has lots of history. There is some wear to the piping on the drivers seat. I must stress it's the piping only - there is no split in the stitching. It's one of those that looks far worse than it is.
I've never been particularly bothered by MGFs, and only bought this one as it was a cheap two-seater soft top with 12 months test. As I say, it's been a genuine surprise. It's a lot quicker than I expected, rides and corners superbly (hydrogas suspension all working fantastically well) and pulls superbly (although I haven't taken it to the 7200rpm redline). The rebuild takes away any reliability worries and it's in great condition for a 16 year old car. There are a couple of areas that the previous owner touched in at the edges of the front wings. They're fine, but wouldn't cost much if you wanted them professionally sorted. Everything works. Everything.
The car could probably do with a new back box in the near future (it blows a little - which makes it sound nice and rorty! ). Again, it's no issue, but I'd sooner let you know now. I'd like to get as much of the money I've paid out as possible but am open to offers. If you have any questions please feel free to drop me a line. I may be interested in a swap, possibly Dolomite or Dub or bike (try me) or sell at £700 ono. I live in Leicester.
Cheers
Nik
