It's a bit like Fantasy football, but with a smaller budget and arguably much more interesting combinations... Here we go: Imagine you had a spare £1000 just hanging around (yeah, i know not very realistic so far but...) Using the wonder of t'internet, find a car and suitable bits to make a 'proper' retro ride- you know the kind of thing i'm on about... 's gotta be legal (MOT etc...), working and cool  Oh! and you cant use bit and pieces you already have! Here's my first suggestion: ok, buy this: I don't like modern fords generally, but i do like the Scorpio, if only for its cheapness despite kit levels... It's at £310 (!) at the mo' with 23 bids, lets just say it ends up at £600... rip ou the hydropneumatic supension from this(currently £100, no bids- lets say it goes for £250)  and stick it in the scorpio- instant lowrider! Which leaves me £150 to bid on these Ok, who can do much better then?  |

A slight deviation from the norm here but the car I have just done is a real example of what can be achieved with a grands worth of eBay purchases. This car is now my daily driver. I bought this Nissan Silvia with 8 months MOT for £100 on ebay with buy-it-now. It already had been lowered and had gas shocks all round plus quite a lot of other good bits but it needed a cylinder head and the engine was in bits.  cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2487204107I had previously bought a 200SX engine off a guy on the SXOC forum for £350 which coincidentally was delivered the same day as I collected the silvia. This made me change my plans from fixing the Silvia engine to swapping in a 200SX one. Running total so far - £450 To the 200SX engine I added a T25G turbo and HKS wastegate+dump pipe which came off ebay for £228.54 (inc shipping from Japan)http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ed=1083785624000&item=2476519103 a custom front mount intercooler made for a Cossy for £50 and a Greddy dump valve which cost £96.33 (both inc shipping) Running total so far... £824.54 The engine was almost a direct bolt in job. I plumbed the IC in with bits of pipe from a Saab Turbo and a Volvo, all souced from ascrappy for a tenner. The wiring was fiddly and took me a day but it fired up fine and ran okay right away. The HKS wastegate actuator was already set at 1 bar.  Finally, I added a set of Compomotive MO wheels purchased off ebay for £132 cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=7904227353&ssPageName=ADME:B:EOAB:UK:6Running total £966.54, and here's what I have ended up with....  Some testing with my G-tech recorded a fastest 0-60 of 5.51 secs, 1/4 mile in 13.6 (more likey 14.2..the G-techs not to hot at 1/4's) and we recoeded the top speed with my GPS...  The other additions to the car consist of ... Black bonnet from a 2.0L Silvia from a local scrappy - £10 Auto Meter boost guage - £44 Braided turbo oil feed - £29 Black headlight covers to match the bonnet - free (already had them but could have painted the white ones) Stage2 Chip for the ECU - £132 fitted (good for 280bhp @ 16psi) Removing the ridiculous 5" tailpipe and fitting a 2.75" one - free (used a length of an old propshaft ;D) Even with these additions it's not that much over a grand and it's wicked performance for the money. BTW, the Silvia is plush too as it not only has electric windows and PAS but it also has a/c too. Lots of ace sideways action for me this winter ;D My Silvia is 16 years old and as the first ones are over 20 years old I think it qualifies for retro-ness -Eddie |

I'm kinda going down this route myself for my daily driver. Paid £200 for a 70k mile Mk2 golf on ebay. Paid £30 for a set of scirocco rims and have sprayed them black and polished the rim. Bought some lowered springs and shocks and dropped her 40mm (thought the back seems lower than the front  ) just on the hunt for a BARGAIN GTi lump now. |

Bought some lowered springs and shocks and dropped her 40mm (thought the back seems lower than the front ) just on the hunt for a BARGAIN GTi lump now. my local scrappy has a mk2 GTi 16v complete for about £200 (Nottingham) doing something similar with a mk2 'rocco- £90 with storm leather interior, original alloys, weber carb on original 1600 4+E engine, i'm happy with 85mph at 2.5k rpm though. tidy up and i'm happy, dunno if the wife will be once i get around to telling her.  |

Get out there and paint those MOs now man! ;D Me too...I will probably do the wheels in Graphite eventually but I needed it on the road pronto as I didn't have a car to use (amazing though that might seem ;D) I might run the black stock S12 rims over the winter as I don't mind them getting messed up. While I do that I'll strip and paint the MO's. |

Damn you and your reasonably priced cars! We live in Britain, land of the rip-off! ;D Hows this? *All pics on ebay motors* Volvo 740 estate: £150 (A saloon would have been better but I can't find one! )  This 850 T5 would donate it's engine and wheels, as apparently he has now sold the sh*tty aftermarket things seen here and put it's own on: £360  A few hundred quid more on good brakes, (why not similar to the 850 T5 above's brakes, although they'd have to be new ones, second hand brakes sound like asking for it to me! Spend the rest on a respray in period Volvo silver for that model (lovely colour for an 80s Volvo) which should cost a couple of hundred quid. (Especially since I have a mate that can do these things on the cheap for me who works in a bodyshop! ;D) Blowing neds away left right and centre: PRICELESS! ;D ;D |

If it's passed even a recent MOT over there it will be in much better shape than a lot of ours currently on the road. The term "Buyer Beware" means a lot more here. Some may not care for your MOT but it's a level of protection we don't have. |

If it's passed even a recent MOT over there it will be in much better shape than a lot of ours currently on the road. The term "Buyer Beware" means a lot more here. Some may not care for your MOT but it's a level of protection we don't have. But hes right....not only are your cars cheaper....they're better altogether :lol: |
