We all give them, and recieve them, those instructions on how to deal with the slightly "eccentric" features of the car we just bought/sold... Regarding my new purchase's transmission... My head is spinning already. I think the tyres will be though too I still dig that they call this thing "The Beast of Dartmoor" Anyone else get baffling or at least slightly troubling instructions with their steed, or feel the need to give them?

Don't worry about first or second most of the time. Just use second to get moving then third and fourth. Second is somewhere around your passengers knees, third is somewhere by the fuel gauge and fourth is somewhere behind third. If you stop at lights or a junction and the fuel pump stops ticking, kick the bulkhead to the right of the steering column and it'll start up again. Don't use the wipers in the rain, it blows the fuse, well it would but there is a 1/4" bolt fitted in place of the fuse, so best leave them alone for now. An 80" 1953 Series 1 Landrover, so it was allowed to be cantankerous

The PO of my car refused that I take it home under its own steam because it had been for storage for 15 years. I had to put it on a truck to take it home, then changed small stuff like the exhaust (I shouldn't have, it sounded gorgeous before), the outer track rod ends and the tires and then drove it for 10hrs straight

Previous owner of the Princess:
"If something stops working, pop the bonnet and rotate the fuses, that usually sorts it."
"Don't use the spare ignition key, it gets stuck" (it does too!)

He told you not to use it!
Replace all fuses with an M6 bolt.

Also got 3 pages of hand written do's and don't's with the merc.
Got quite a lot of instruction (needed!) on how to work the gearbox on the desoto. Quite like it now.

As I was driving off in my old 740 "If she stops, just give the fuel pump a whack with the hammer". Worked too, for several times over 3 months.

I got brush this wire on the battery to turn it over as the fire position on the ignition key didn't work, no amount of back tracing and changing altered this so I put a wire through the dash and put it on a push button.
It was strange as it needed the keys turned to activate everything else to enable it to start but you could turn it over with nothing else bar this wire, if you did one but not the other you would just sit there all day going no where.
MR2 came with like a coat hanger device for unlocking for when it locks the keys in itself as the fantastic amazing all singing and dancing alarm like to auto lock the keys in the ignition.
