I've got an old set of 'mini G60's' in the garage destined for my Polo but they are currently black and need a good refurb first. I'm planning on painting them silver but I was wandering what paint most people would recommend?
I have used good old Simoniz '5 Wheel Silver' back in the 90's, is this still around and recommended?

Smooth Hammerite silver, no primer needed, rock-hard finish. You can still get the simoniz wheel silver.

We've given up on Simoniz these days. It's now an acrylc and not a patch on the original cellulose stuff (progress eh!!)
We now use aerosols from a firm 'oooop north' for about £3 a can i think, but the wheel silver is really heavy and has good dense pigmentation. Covers really well

+1 for silver hammerite, very OEM looking if sprayed on.

Spray the Hammerite on in very thin coats and it should be okay... It's the only way to make it settle nicely. Even the Tech guys at Hammerite HQ say that it's not really made for thinning and spraying! (yes... i rang them once enquiring about thinners)

I just brushed it on with a paint brush, then dabbed it, so mine have (on close inspection) a very slight orange peel effect. I'll get a closer pic up later. It depends on what finish you want.

My steelies were covered in surface rust when I bought the car. I masked the tyre off and just went over it with a wire wheel, applied some kurust, went over it with the wire wheel again and then sprayed it with the Hammerite.
+1 for thin coats as it will run and probably won't be dry until the following day if you chuck it on.
