Spent today rebuiling and modifying the carb on my polo and now it wont run
Il start from the beginning to see if you guys can work out where ive gone wrong
My 1990 mk2 polo 1043 with auto choke pierburg 1b3 has been running ok, but the choke wasnt really working very well. this was partly down to the choke flap being replaced with a bit of tatty tabacco tin.
i accumulated a few bits, including an identical carb from a mk1 golf, and another 1b3 from a nova. i used the manual choke mechanism from the nova and mocked it up on the golf carb to make it fit.
then i took the carb out of the polo, fitted the jets into the top half of the golf carb after a quick spray with carb cleaner, sprayed tho whole carb inside and out and fitted the top half off the golf carb onto the original polo bottow half.
The gasket from the polo between the halfs was in good condition so i just re used it.
when re fitting i found that the plastic pot in the fuel lines (I'm guessing a filter) fouled the new manual choke bracket, so i bent the blracket that held it into shape so that it just about squeezed in there.
the coolant pipes to the origianl auto choke were taken care of with a bit of 10mm pipe and two jubilee clips (shouldnt be a problem but the pipes were 12 - 13mm so i just tightend the jubilee clips until it seemed secure)
once everything was connected i started it up. started beautifully, and ran for a good minute with a few stamps on the throttle. but after a bit it started spluttering, especially with increased revs. this slowly got worse until eventually it died and now wont start
any ideas/advise/solutions?
cheers in advance
