A thread aaaaaaaages ago got me hunting for a pic of the front of a base-model early Sierra. I was convinced that they had unpainted grilles but it was difficult to prove... I found it ;D I wonder how many povo-spec ones they actually sold? I bet the numbers were minimal - just a headline grabbing "BUY A SIERRA FROM THE STUPIDLY LOW PRICE OF £2995" or whatever Man and machine in perfect harmony That's from the October/November 1982 range brochure, reeeeeeal early

it doesn't matter if it's a Morris Marina or a Toyota Celica - it's what you do with it that counts

That driver looks a cool chap. In 1982 colour coded grills were quite new i think, unpainted povo one also perhaps was a back up illision to stop it looking so jelly mouldy too. It did follow this afterall

Darren - I spotted a silver one recently, Y-reg I think in St Helens which had the grey plastic (non colour coded) grille like that and thought 'pov spec' - So there are some still about.

1300 OHC- pinto? was the 1300 pinto unique to this car?
I have to say I like it.... but if it was 1982 and I was a sales rep and I was handed the keys to that, Id kick the sh%t out of it.

Looking at that you can see why people shy'd away from them prefering the old Cortina.
Just think 'Potential' though.

1300 OHC- pinto? was the 1300 pinto unique to this car? I think LHD Cortinas (Taunus I suppose) got it too, IIRC using this head on a bigger capacity Pinto will give higher compression or summat - it must give some kind of power advantage as it is/was a banned mod on stock cars. Pog, I remember you linking that pic that was on autoshite to here, something like 'FAO DarrenW' title to the thread.

Hats off to you DarrenW for finding that pic! You can bet that 99% of the unpainted grilles were later colour-coded to "upgrade" the spec by their owners, much like reanimations one. Is the grille completely unpainted then? I imagine it to be moulded in the same plastic as the bumpers... did it have a texture or was it smooth? I've never seen one in real life. Me dad had a silver 2.0GL Y-plater which I really liked. I wish he still had that!

From looking closely at the pic it appears to be the same as the bumpers... I've got a catalogue from not long later and the base model has a painted grille so it can't have lasted long! ;D Also, some models had smooth aero-wheeltrims. On whichever hatch model it was, they had three vents arranged around the edge, and on others, they look identical but have two vents... You'd mistake them for the same trims at first glance. WHY?! ;D Not the best pics ever, but: And that's before I go on about why on earth they made two different three-door bodyshell types ;D
