now bear with me as iv never changed a car battery or even looked into it.
the battery in the buggy is too big so i cant put the rear seat in. my question is, do batteries come in different sizes or is there just one standard size?

loads of different sizes, and different posts on the top. make sure you don't get round posts if the buggy has square connectors you prob don't need a very big battery for the buggy

yes but your better off going to a battery specialist or a motor factor, that way you can take along your measurements and have a better selection to choose from.DON'T FORGET to leave some room above the battery for clearance ,other wise the seat frames/springs could short out on the terminals casuing a fire.

i need a pretty small battery methinks. round connectors too. 12v 70Ah if i remember right
luckily the seat is made of wood so i don't have to worry about it conducting electricity. although wood above a hot engine is a different matter...

thought i'd better mention it just in case because i'd heard of it happening a beetle where the owner out too tall a battery in and it made contact.

they really should invent some sort of plastic caps for batteries. seems silly leaving the terminals exposed. or just move to a plug and socket type of connection

Assuming your engine is fairly standard you might as well get one that is rated as per donor car. You can get caps to go over the terminals. I'll find a link in a minute but you can probably get them from wherever you go for the battery. edit: www.autoelectricsupplies.co.uk/product_list/26

Our focus had a plastic shroud over the top of the battery. After removing it and re-fitting 88 times for jump-starting automotive crud, I got bored with the hassle and binned it. (whilst i'm on the subject... who's bright idea was it to make a car where you have to open the bonnet with the ignition key?? FAFF-TASTIC! )

(whilst i'm on the subject... who's bright idea was it to make a car where you have to open the bonnet with the ignition key?? FAFF-TASTIC! ) My mate would say thats a bloody good idea.............. ;D But then he did - park his Auto Senator 3.0 on his drive with the egine running... - Get out of the car and open the bonnet... - Listen intently for the "odd" noise he thought he had heard... - Couldn't hear it any more... - Give the throttle a good blip... You know where this is going don't you... - Car still in drive... - No handbrake applied... Result... - Took him straight thro his garage door and all the way to the back where the car stopped against a washing machine and a freezer (he ended up in the gap between the two of em) - Broke garage door (ripped it clean out of the mounts) washing machine and freezer and a few kids bikes too on it's way to final stop..... He had a real job explaining it to both insurance companies Car insurance for the damage to the car (not bad all things considered) House insurance for the damage to contents of the garage!!!

FFS!! Was he badly hurt? Nope - bruised legs (from the front bumper), back From the garage door...... An a huge dent to pride...... He just got into bad habits Driveway was on a slope but Auto's don't roll backwards when left in D at tickover He always used to pull onto drive, stop hop out and open garage and get back in to drive it in - he admitted he done it so often it was second nature. On this occasion he wasn't planning on putting it into the garage but he did........ ;D

I've had Volkwagen's in the past with factory battery covers, just click onto standard 630 (i think).
bug had rubber mat over its battery to insulate against possible shorting on rear seat springs.
