I'm in the process of adapting a stainless steel roof rack to take my fiamma awning and then making a roof crate too,
all the rivnuts have rusted to the bolts so ive got most of them out and new rivnuts and A2 stainless bolts to go back in
question is can i get some kind of anti galvanic assembly paste to stop this happening again?
Ta

A small zinc plate/washer on top of the rivnut is about as good a result you could reasonably get - along with copper grease liberally applied everywhere! Random fact - if you loosely wrap an iron rod in zinc mesh... the nail won't rust! 100% coverage isn't needed for the zinc to become sacrificial

Hi, try using stainless rivnuts. All components the same metal so no electrolytic action.

They'll cause the bodywork they're attached to, to rust at an accelerated rate don't forget

Hi, you only get electrolytic action when the metals are in contact with one another. The coat of paint on the vehicle is enough of a barrier.

Should be OK there since won't be done up tight, but stainless-stainless can gall. Used stainless bolts into ally on bikes with copperslip for 20+ yrs, no probs. There is a paste but believe it's fairly nasty stuff.

Duralac. Comes in tins and tubes. Used all over the Elise where steel meets ali. It's sticky and a pain to get off your hands so wear gloves. It'll also seal the threads and acts as a mild threadlocker. It doesn't set fully and remains slightly rubbery.
