oooooh- even worse
most used the 2.0 "boat anchor" non crossflow 18-R engine, (no offence carl, or any other owner) the coupe in the UK used the sweet little 2T-B 1600 OHV though that must be underpowered, and the rare GT had an RG twink dropped in, so those will no doubt be spritely. I didnt think the Gen2 celica was being referred to as the "celica supra Mk2" was mentioned.........
will get some specs on the Gen2, hang on a mo..........
TA40 Coupe .... (2t-b)
1.6..... 83 bhp,
0-60...15 secs,
top speed.....106 mph,
RA40 Hatchback sold as a ST or XT,
2.0.... 18-R Engine, (boat anchor)
89 bhp,
0-60.......12.2secs,
Top speed...104 mph,
RA40 , 2.0 GT Hatchback
2.0 18R-G engine, twincam 8 valve.
118 bhp,
0-60....8.8 secs,
top speed....113 mph,
still, i think if i had the space and cash, i'd have an example of each different type- love em all
In the celica club UK we only have a handful of gen4's despite there being so many left, for some reason they seem to be unloved.
maybe its cos of the various points shown above- FWD so therefore not cool, and a bit of a disposable item at this age as they'll be expensive to run compared to a more modern, similar performing hot hatch.
I was offered an auto for free earlier this year, and I had to refuse because you don't get no claims on your second policy- so i had to let it get scrapped, broke my heart- thats how i ended up with my micra clown car ;D
They really are quite brutal performers though- i've never driven a Gen4, but I really do imagine them as being a lightweight gen5, so i can imagine they're superb fun muscular sports coupe for peanuts- just look out for j-tin-worm
