Hi guys and gals Well progress in the house of imp has come to a standstill, I seem to have broken my leg. Its been hurting a bit since Friday, so yesterday I went to the doctors and has it checked out, he said X-ray that suka. These are the results – Kinda hard to see there but I’ve totally snapped off the end of my fibula, bit silly wasn’t it! So to get back on topic, and to celebrate my cack handedness, I would like to see you pictures of broken engine bits, here are my offerings – This is a G-lader supercharger that has spat the dummy, too higher boost or too higher RPM means lots of tiny bits of aluminium! This is the aftermath inside the engine, I think the exhaust valves were the same! So come on the, show me your pics! J

it doesn't matter if it's a Morris Marina or a Toyota Celica - it's what you do with it that counts

Yeah its a cracker, i recon the syncro belt broke, leading to some serious contact between moving and non moving bits! Super hard core internal tatooing! Nah i was on the way to the hospital and i knew they would take them off me, so i took photos for posterity. As for the blown up stuff, none of its mine. I found a site with a chap who had done lots of work to his Vw golf (rabbit as it was US), this was just on a gone wrong page J

nasty not broke any major bones myself but on the engine front this must be my most impresive and expencive break it a piston fron a brand new 302 block the whole lot was new appart from the heads and there lies the mistake old stock heads + scary camshaft = one broken head of one of the valves landing on top of the brand new piston as it was on the up stroke smashing it into the under side of the other valve splitting the piston in 2 and taking out the side of the brand new bloke in the process

A few years ago I had the hardened valve seats drop out after a sh*te unleaded head conversion The bits embedded in the top of the piston is the remains of the hardened valve seat. It ruined two pistons, 1 head and the engine block was beyond economical repair. I have been very wary of unleaded heads and don't want to get mine converted again, even though I know that they are not supposed to run on unleaded petrol and can cause ware in the long run. Since I have rebuilt the engine with standard (non unleaded) heads the car seems to drive much better on unleaded petrol. Scimmie

Dude, how did you manage that!! Saying that, I broke my leg in 5 places in my first year at Uni and didn't realise what I had done until I stood up Hope it heals quick, I was back on my bike in 6 weeks which wasn't too bad, should give you some quality inspiration time too Have you heard back from you "special interview" yet? The timing chain on my friend Steve's Sierra broke resulting in this... He proclaimed that the problem "wasn't mechanical" when it wouldn't restart, that coming from an F1 engineer ;D

That valve seat made quite a mess didnt it! I hope you gave the engineering company a rocket over that one, very poor. Its def more economical to run a non unleaded head on unleaded if when converted its going to do that! I boorked my leg jumping over a wall a little too enthuseatcly (sp?) with my bike, they siad i will heal fully and be able to keep up my incredible stunting I wont hear back from williams untill next week, zytek should be back to me this week, so I'm hoping. Fingers crossed! J

Ah... bike injury... figures!!!
I did that once.. lost an arguement with a bus in the pi$sing rain on my hardtail. Thought I was OK, 'till i tried to eat my dinner and my arm went all over the place. 16 breaks and fractures within 5cm of my elbow. Nice. Despite having several pins put in I was back in (manual) work 48hrs later. ;D
I'm sure this 'mishap' won't slow you down too much. I'm looking forward to the finished result!!!

Sorry to hear that J! Broke my wrist a few years ago. I'd always wanted a skateboard when I was younger so got one for my 27th birthday ;D. About a year later I was in plaster for 3 months. No major breaks on the cars. Got a misfire when trying to prove to some friends just how fast the Oxford could go. Found this some months later whe giving the head a once over. The car's keys are on the other bit now. And a fairly typical herald U/J. I've had worse than this actually!

Good effort on the leg. I have had my fair share of mechanical destruction, usually the result of abuse more than unreliability to be fair though ;D My Datsun 510 did this to two diffs at santa pod (in three runs : My 610 did this to a rear driveshaft at CaRS My Turbo Prairies demise. it actually managed to launch the rod clean out of the block ;D Notice here the small piece of piston found in the enginebay ;D The offending rod.. When i had A35's and a40's I busted dozens of gearboxes and halfshafts which when you consider how relatively lacking in power a 1275 A series is, shows just how frail the oily bits of those old motors were!

Harsh beans, hope you have a speedy recovery mate! in the lead up to CARs my clutch gained lots of travel and only just worked at the bottom, luckily i had enough adjustment to sort it out, but progressivly over the next few 100 miles it did it again... until after cars it suddenly went pretty much all together, with a stange clackerty noise... managed to limp home to find... ...the roll pins holding the clutch fork had half disapeared! (pic shows new vs old!) also, a few days before the MOT it did this: so i popped the engine out, pulled the ofending piston out the bottom, whacked in a whole new piston and rod, popped it back in the car and it sailed through its mot the next day! and it did a good 2000miles or so on the odd piston before it got rather bottom endy and i pulled it out. i have also broken a few lawnmover con rods (including both in a brigg flat twin when doing about 45mph!!!) and dads bend some valves / stripped the cam gear on an essex. luckily we have avoided to many breakages!
