I haven't got Retro Cars yet but I'll be interested to see that!

Although I'm sure you could get 100 odd hp out of an Imp engine if you were so inclined, and the power to weight ratio and handling would probably be better. Unless the owner of that Stiletto has done some extreme tinkering with where the engine is mounted to get it handling right.

I can't be totally sure that Talbot-Pugeot didn't use any of the thinking behind the Imp 875, but to my knowledge the only non Imp built by Talbot or Pugeot to use the Imp engine was the Sunbeam Talbot, with the 930cc Imp engine. I don't think the Pug pistons would fit. Is the Pug engine all alloy and lying at 45 degrees do you know?

It does sound similar in some ways right enough. Maybe it's developed off one of the larger Climax engines. There were 1100cc and 1300cc versions I think, which were all alloy as well. Rootes used the Climax 875 as they had a controlling share in Coventry Climax, maybe this passed on to Pugeot and they got the rights to the bigger engines too? I think that Lotus used the 1300 one at one point. Maybe it's based on one of those.

If so they weren't directly based on the Imp 875, but they were based on a similar Coventry Climax engine, like the one that the Imp engine was developed from.
I've heard it said that the 875 Imp engine was essentially a small, super light weight version of the larger 1100 engine, so it would have to be similar to the Climax derived engine in your 104.
