I've got myself a little Rover 220SD derv, which comes with a lovely Bosch VE pump (including dynamic ECU timing advance!)
got a lot of work to do to this - mainly slap on an intercooler, and fit up my GT1849v VNT turbo. After fitting some Freelander 300Tdi Nozzles to my injectors, I should be good for about 170Bhp from the standard pump (and be at the limit of that turbo)
But... after all that works, I intend to fit a GT20/GT22 based turbo, and the VE pump will run out of puff at this level. It's just going to be the point of diminishing returns - any further upgrade parts will be ridiculously expensive, and will make the poor little VE likely to explode at any point.
So... I'm intending to fit a Bosch P-pump
I know the main part numbers are P7100 (very few 4 cyl version were made) and the P5000 (the weaker version of the p7100, but more common as 4cyl)
Has anyone got a few suggestions as to where to look for these lovely beasties? Annoyingly, all mercs with the p-pump, are 5 cyl! and most seem to go for about £200 on fleabay, regardless of condition.
Failing that - has anyone got any other ideas for what can flow enough fuel for 250Bhp comfortably, without spending a ridiculous amount of money?
A few pics of P-pumps, for anyone who cares for a nice bit of mechanical design
