I bought this Vento a few weeks back off a local family, with the hope of putting it on the road and using it as my daily. It had been laid up for about 5 months when I bought it.
I took it for an MOT this morning and it failed on the front brake pads and anti-roll bar bushes (what i'd expected) but also failed on a couple of areas that need welding - both seatbelt anchorage points. Also one of the front springs is fractured. The garage have quoted £200ish to fix it but I think i'll just move it on. In my opinion it's far too good to scrap, if I could weld i'd be fixing it and getting it through the test.
The car runs and drives well, it starts up first time (battery doesn't look very old), it stops, eventually (brake pads very low)and drives smoothly and fairly quietly, although you can hear the anti-roll bar clattering about. The clutch and gearbox are absolutely fine. No blows from the exhaust or anything like that.
It has done 138k, I have a service book stamped up to about 70k, when the cambelt was changed, then a load of receipts for work done since then, as well as old MOTs.
It has got electric windows all round (front passenger window wedged shut), it has power steering, central locking (that works unlike most mk3 Golfs..), 'ThermoTronic' heaters, electric sunroof, snazzy tape player and all of the other 'GL' refinements. All of the tyres are decent and have plenty of miles in them.
The bodywork is pretty good for one of these, Ventos and Golfs of this era are notorious for being rust-buckets, but most of the panels on this are rust free. There is a bit coming through on the o/s rear sill but that's it, apart from a little rust bubble coming through on the n/s rear quarter panel. It is a fairly straight and tidy example, there is a little dink in the bootlid but nothing else that springs to mind.
I'd just like to get back most of what it has cost me so far, so i'm asking for £350 or an offer close to that.
I'm based in Nuneaton, Warwickshire, if you'd like to chat about the car or come and view it either drop me a message or give me a call on 07757497050
Thanks, Matt
