Hello I have and mk2 austin A40 which I'm starting to restore I cant for the love of money cant get the rear bumper off help please   |

I've changed your title to something more appropriate and moved this into the tech section.
Have you got a the Haynes Manual or similar for the car? Otherwise I foresee a number of such threads.....

why cant you get it off?? is it rusted on? bolts siezed?
or just don't know how its done?,.

the bolts are behind the bumper and i cant get any sort of tool in there to undo it

9/16" spanner at a guess? Or maybe a 1/2" one as its a small car. You might have to sacrifice the bolts by griping them with mole-grips if they rotate in the bumper.
Looks like there's plenty of manuals out there available for you to buy to replace the one lost years ago...

try Amazon or Ebay for haynes and genuine workshop manuals,also look for the Practical Classic magazine's book on restoring an A40 should have a lot of useful info for you

thanks people but the problem I'm having is i cant get to the bolts the gap is to small for a ratchet and to much of a bend for a spanner the bolts are behind the 2 big silver bump stops in the photo  |

rather than unbolting the bumper from the car, I think you need to unbolt the car from the bumper, if you do it that way round you should find the access much easier.

Does the bumper bolt to brackets that pass through the valence? if yes you have to unbolt the brackets from the chassis? either underneath the car or in the boot ?

So he's gone then. I think there is a 99% probability that this car (which looked emininantly 'saveable') is doomed. That's the sad part. |
