As I'm repairing the van I am now at a stage where I can prime the roof and move onto the lower of the body. Does anyone know of a decent aerosol primer that I can spray on and not worry too much about surface rust coming through?
The van is in my garage so it is dry and its not like its humid or anything and it will mostly be getting sanded back down anyway. I was thinking some kind of etch primer might be suitable.

All primer is porous AFAIK - I'd do whatever priming you want and put a single layer of cheap topcoat on to seal it.

You can get industrial non hydroscopic primers, mostly epoxy based, i'd get it sparkly clean degrease it then throw a coat of 'poxy over it, as long as you keep it dry ish, it'll be good for year like that, and when you come to paint it you can just go straight over the top...

I've recently been slow sanding wob off the side of the 205 over a few weeks and using it OTR in between. I went for a thin pound shop top coat to keep the weather out which is a cheap option given that it's likely you'll be sanding again in the future.
