Hi, can anyone tell me if there is any difference between the dashpot and damper sizes between HIF38 and HIF44 su's? are they different or is the only difference the bore size of the carb mouth?
i have most of a 44 but need the dashpot and piston, which i can get from a cheap 38 if they fit...
thanks

The piston is smaler on the 38, dashpot is the same and also interchangeable between HS and HIF types. In fact, early HIF carb's didn't have the roller bearing dashpot/piston assembly and very late HS carbs got the roller bearing assembly too. The roller bearing dashpot/piston assembly is the one commonly refered to as the 'HIF' type... It's the better choice, as it's much less likely to stick As far as dampers are concerned, there'S a lot of different dampers about, take the damper that came off your engine. They can have quite some effect! My laptop should be repaired by the middle of the week, I could upload all the SU carb reference stuff I have if you need to find the correct damper & spring. But it's all on the oder HD... So basically two options: find a HS6 or HIF44 dashpot assembly. Swapping pistons between dashpots can be done, but is not recommended.
