For Sale – 1990 Mazda MX-5 – ‘the good, the bad and the ugly’
The good - This MX-5 is the 1.6V-Spec version with the 1600cc engine and manual 5 speed gearbox. It was imported from Japan in 1998 and had only one owner from then until 2011. The guy who owned it was fastidious in keeping it up together and spent fortunes on the car over the years. He seems to have kept all the bills so there is a folder stuffed with import paperwork, invoices, service history and every MOT certificate the MX-5 has ever had which prove the low mileage of just 87k miles. It has a Cobra ‘Thatcham approved’ immobiliser and has both keys and both immobiliser fobs. It has had new headrest speakers, new battery, a new cam belt at 65k, a new hood which is perfect and leak free and has just had a set of 15” OZ racing alloy wheels fitted. The original alloy wheels with legal tyres are also included in the asking price.
This week I had it MOTed and it now has an MOT until 27th Feb 2013 and 6 months road tax.
The bad – just before selling the car last year the previous owner hit someone up the ar5e. The MX-5 only needed a wing and a bumper but was an insurance write off (Cat C) as by then it was a 30 year old car and no matter how nice it was the book price wasn’t high enough to justify a main dealer repair as far as the insurance company were concerned.
The car therefore needed a VIC check when I bought it, which I have done and it passed with flying colours. I now have a newly issued V5 log book for the car in my name.
The ugly - He didn’t do too much damage when he crashed the MX-5, but did need to replace the wing and front bumper. He used second-hand panels from a red car and fitted them and then decided it would be a good idea to hand paint them silver with Hammerite!
He also cut a section of the carpet when replacing wiring for the speakers so it wants a new carpet (£30 on e-bay)
So, what we have here is a low mileage MX-5 with a great history, a new hood, a full years MOT and 6 months tax.
And the best bit is it can be yours for just £795
Can be viewed in Woking, Surrey. Need to sell as I’m going to buy a motorbike and apparently 5 cars is just too many to own according to she who must be obeyed!
