For Sale I have a 1997 'R' plated Vauxhall Corsa 5 door in flame red, 53k, 99.9% sure this is genuine, 5 door 1.4 Hi-Torq engine Tax til July MOT til June 2 owners, both 'mature' - been garaged for the past 4 years of its life serviced 2,500 miles ago, Sunroof Power steering
Bad Points - There's an issue with the gear selection, there's no 5th gear, but g/box is ok, still drives perfectly. It's Vauxhall Red, hence pinkish in areas that's about it, the lip of the bonnet has surface rust but you can't see this unless the bonnet is up.
Price: £425 ono Location: South-East Leicester.

Hi mate, there's no fault with your gearbox,it's just the plastic selector ball on top of the linkage and it's actually not very hard to fix yourself. There's a very clever little way of locking the box in gear so you don't have any problems getting it to line up after you've replaced the bush. It's a little White socket on top of the selector plate that's readily available from Vauxhall for a few quid, bit of washing up liquid to squeeze it in and your done. Take you an hour tops,I can do it now in about 20 mins but 1st times a bit more fiddly. I'll try googling some guides for you.

Here's some info on how to reset the linkage after you've removed it,but if I were you I'd use this procedure first to make sure you get it into gear before you take the linkage off. It's for a Corsa c but it's the same procedure on most Vauxhalls of that era. A lot of googling brings up Corsa c issues which are well documented and fail regularly, you can get individual parts from vaux for the Corsa b you own very reasonably and what a difference it makes to the car.

Get a 5 mm drill bit. Lift up the gear stick gaitor. Insert 5mm drill bit in the hole on the left of the gear stick. Push the stick left till you lign up with the 5mm hole to stop you accidently going into reverse, Lock gear stick into position with dril bit.
Lift bonnet, Loosen linkage from the gear stick push rod ( this is the allen bolt fitting)
On the gearbox twist the selector rod towards the passenger wing and press in the yellow / orange locking pin.
Tighten the allen bolt fitting, remove drill bit, twist gear selector on the gearbox towards the passenger wing till the yellow / orange pin releases.
Test drive.
