Focus = difficult (lots of integration between the body electrics and the ecu, and a complex immobiliser).
Also, not many Focuseseses have a Zeta engine (Mk1 2.0 IIRC) - which is what you need to bolt up to a Type 9 or MT75 for RWDness.
TBH, you'd be better off searching out an early Mk1 Mondeo (or Escort of a similar vintage). The earliest ones don't have an immobiliser, so the ecu wiring is easy - it only needs a few wires connecting to the ignition switch. The immobilised mondeos have a bit of red plastic on the front edge of the ignition key, while the non-immobilised ones don't.
Obviously, buy the engine on condition - it would be giid to be able to smoke round in the donor for a while to make sure the engine's a good'un. Don't be scared of one with a high milage: the Zetec is a tough old thing: the one I owned briefly had 135,000 on the clock, had suffered a bit of neglect, and used absolutely no oil or water. Pulled nicely, too.

I've just sussed out how to remove and run a pats loom out a mondeo. Obviously you need the right key to go with ecu. You cut all the wires at the engine block connector, join 5? positives up, an earth and the 4 pats wires. Yip that easy.
