Ive got some speedlines in there original gold colour that I want to repaint. Trouble is the original paint seems rather good and half an hour in nitromors hasn't really done much at all, so I'm tempted just to paint them as they are after a little sand down.
Question is should I still use acid etch primer or something else?

If they are in good condition (i.e. the paint surface is smooth and not loose/flakey) then just rubbing them down with some Scotchbrite will give them a suitable key for new paint.
A can of acid etch primer (I alway use Upol Acid 8) lightly dusted over the wheels then three good coats of gold, followed by a good few coats of laquer will do a good job. Careful prep and taking your time to get a good finish are the key ingredients in making a nice job of it.
Upol primer seems very expensive, but it used sparingly (which is how it should be used) it lasts AGES and really is worth the money IMHO.
