Bit of a puzzle this one, so it's brain picking time...
2000 model petrol Skoda Octavia (1.6MPI) - runs fine, has no obvious problems apart from the airbag light (always on) and the MIL (always off) and the diagnostic socket won't connect to any scan tool.
I was trying to read the airbag codes, but kept getting errors from the scantool - tried other tools, always the same result. The adapter powers up fine but there is no signal from the ECU to the tool.
Then I noticed the lack of a MIL (check engine light)... it should come on with the ignition but go out when you start the car, it doesn't come on. Took the clocks out - no bulb in the MIL so I put one in, and tried again - still no light and no connection. Tried a different bulb (swapped with another warning light) no change - not the bulb. Checked the fusebox, all the "Engine control" fuses and the "diagnostic" fuse are fine and receiving power when the ignition is on. Pulling out the diagnostic fuse kills the power to the diagnostic socket but nothing else (car still runs, but scantool doesn't power up when connected), both the engine control fuses stop the engine when pulled out.
So I'm a bit stumped. Anyone got any ideas? Or a decent wiring diagram? I need to fix this because both the airbag light being on and the MIL not working are a big fat MOT fail now.
PS, i know there are other ways around the warning lights, but I'd quite like to fix it properly rather than fake the lamps with a couple of 555 timers
