Lovely car!
If I'm completely honest I'm a bit disappointed you're changing the wheels, they're perfect. In fact, it's all completely finished, don't touch it! Only kidding, I know you have to put your stamp on it - just saying take it easy and think it all through thoroughly.
Great buy there though mate, congratulations.

just saying take it easy and think it all through thoroughly. ^ This, It's a stunning and something quite special now, don't f**k it up by covering it in stickers and matt black paint, Just use it and enjoy it. Your a lucky man.

This car is cracking. It's really something quite special. Simple, uncluttered and so very clean.
I know it's your own car and you can pour petrol on it and light it on fire if you want. And, I know I'm not Chip Foose or whatever, but this car is great because it doesn't rely on all the VW scene cliches to look good. It's got the everything right without trying to be trendy.
It'll take a lot of planning and effort to improve it. Don't be tempted to just change things for the sake of putting your own stamp on the car.
While I'm trying to be mostly positive, I've got to point out that every sticker you put on the car moves it away from it's simple, clean almost elegant look and moves it toward the herd of a million and one other completely forgettable low VWs with wide wheels on and some "edgy" stickers.
Not that there is anything really wrong with them, I've built quite a few motors like that over the last 6 or 7 years, but none of them worked anywhere nearly as well as this does. It deserves better!

don't worry lads, it won't be getting many (if any) more stickers, and certainly no matt black paint! cheers for the comments though! but of an update for today... The wheels took a bit of getting off...the jack wouldn't go under -__- i got there in the end though... She's looking like this ATM; not her best in all fairness! The wheels are away getting painted, and i've been to get some extended bolts for the rears, aswell as some locking nuts to keep 'em safe! Thinking of getting the lips diamind cut soon... we'll see! But, although she may not look her best, atleast she should sound/perform a little bit better... That's about it for now, i'll update as/when i can...wheels should be done before the weekend! Thanks for looking!

Stunning car mate, look after it. The colour is just so right, different but cool. Only thing I'm not keen on is the mk3 instrument panel, other than that it's pretty much bang on. Excellent purchase I reckon. Cheers, Richard.

So you got this little beast did ya?
Nice buy mate. I've always loved this car.
Get yourself a low profile jack. they go under easy then and are much more stable. I think even B&Q do them these days for about £70 or so. It will be the best investment you ever make when running a low vw.
Get over to mk1polo.com and say hi.

Yeah I'm a fan of function over form too but I reckon a mk2 Polo instrument set would look a bit more at home in there. A bit more inkeeping with the age of the car and the rest of the dash panel. 'Tis a very cool car, now't else cosmetically that I'd change.

Lovely car .
Only thing I'd change is the bumpers - I'd do them black .
That aside , leave everything else well alone.. !

The bumpers would've been silver paint or chrome on the pre-facelift, that's a later car and should have plastic bumpers. I'd put an early grille on and get those bumpers chrome plated, myself. The earlier cars were so much prettier, being a re-badged Audi 50. It's a bit too low for it's own good and could do with a touch more sidewall. The sticker on the front panel is pointlessly stating the obvious.
As you see, it is one of those cars people are protective of. It's beautiful! We think of what we'd do, or not do. We worry your inexperience will result in it getting stacked. And it is already doing damage - the jacking platforms are soft on these and trolley jacks damage them, so lay something on the jack cup like a metal or wood plate to help protect the floor (my own floor is risen through jack damage).

are they really that soft? i'm looking for some round headlights and grille atm, and i can't afford to get the bumpers chromed, it'd cost a bomb! i like the idea of black bumpers...

I like what your doing, the grey inners with the polished lip is going to classy. Only thing i would change would be loose the sticker from the petrol cap and front valance and round front lights maybe. Hope your at edition38 this year!
