It's been a while since we had one of these (anyone remember cross-london at 3am? ) so... Nottingham City Centre, leaving at 5pm to The Nordschleife followed by Five laps (timed bridge-to-gantry) then Back to Nottingham via Amsterdam to Newcastle ferry. You have £3k to spend, first one home wins. *n

In total - purchase and fuel (just to make it simple ) So that's 500 miles to the 'ring, 250 to Amsterdam, 180 Newcastle-Notts. Call it 1000 miles (once you add your laps and pottering around). Flat-rate for fuel of 90p/litre (£4.09/gallon) So...Do you go for a cheap hot rod or a more expensive cruiser? *n

Okay - to clarify:
• You have three grand to spend on purchasing a vehicle and buying fuel.
• You can use part of your budget to modify your vehicle if you wish.
• Fuel has a fixed cost of 90p/litre (£4.09/gallon) irrespective of petrol or diseasel. If you go LPG, it is half the price.
• You must give a (reasonable) fuel consumption (combined) for driving to and from the 'ring and a figure for when you're caning it for 5 laps (65 miles).
Anything else?

can we put £50 aside for when we reach amsterdam. I presume we have time for a coffee before our ferry?? ;D
|
|
|
|
|

So around £150 for petrol
that leaves £2000 for a car and £850 for mods
EDIT - watch out for those coffee's, strong shiznit, and don't stay any longer than 3 days, yoll get stuck there!

Ok well for me it would probably be an audi quattro coupe with the 2.3 turbo, a few tuning mods including a side exit pipe, more boost, bigger intercooler, and some very low springs. If i have enough moola left i would get some wellers for it too!

I don't think I'd bother buying a car. Do it in the Sun Tor and I'd have a free bed for the several nights I'd be away and lots of stops for tea where ever I liked.
Are there any rest stops on the way round the 'ring?

Damn it, Keefy - that was my plan Seth - first one home wins...I reckon that if you leave 5pm on Friday, you could be home for Sunday dinner. *n

Actually - I just realised how easy a 'Ring trip can be from Newcastle - overnight ferry and a 250 mile drive.
Awesome - will have to do it next year.

Its on my to-do list.
OK, 3rd gen Camaro with the wussy 305TBI and the factory 5 speed. Good but shabby, £1500. set of strut insets and rear shocks plus HD sway bar with VAT, Duty, Shipping £300 remove non-working a/c, sound deadener, anything else which seems heavy £free headers, couple of lengths of "drain pipe" and a pair of cherry bombs / Thrushes £200 Set of decent tryes £500?
Leaves about £500 for fuel. I'm guessing 25 MPG cruising and 5 MPG round the ring. We reckon its 1000 miles + 65 mile thrash. 40 gallons at £4.09 = £163, plus 65 miles at 5 MPG = £53
Ooh, I've got £300 left. Cheap nitrous kit? Holley 4 barrel carb and decent intake...
