I'm looking to take the boat anchor 2.1 waterboxer out of the back of my t25, and replace it with something that can manage more than 18mpg , and is hopefully not as lame as this engine.
Anyway, I can swap in a diesel bellhousing and mount a normal inline 4 cylinder engine such as a mk2/mk3 golf 8v GTi engine(PB, 2E, AGG etc), or AAZ /1Z diesels. What else shares this bellhousing pattern? The I4s are mounted on a 45 degree angle to fit under the read deck, with a wedge shaped sump from a JX 1.6d.
I'd probably just buy the whole car to break and steal the engine out of it. Wiring isn't a problem, in fact I quite fancy a challenge. Something with OBD1/2 would be nice, I'm sick of these early injection setups with no/useless/impossible to read diagnostic setups.
I've no real preference for petrol or diesel, but I want to have 110bhp+.
I'm fancying a turbo diesel - I could run it on veg which is slightly cheaper than normal diesel, sometimes. There is also scope to wind the boost up, put a decent intercooler on and stuff.
This is all on a budget, so the donor car needs to be available for about £500
