christ forgot all about these shitboxes, cool aint they ;D memories of these is mainly a bloke i used to work with had a mint BRG vitesse, well cared for (had from new I think) and despite having covered captain kirk mileage it was a minter Victor Meldrew had the Honda Ballade BTW, and I think the 213 rover used a 12 valve honda unit but don't hold me to that. mate had one which was very revvy, think that was the reason..... As far as dropping in the D15 engine, that reminds me of a project me and a honda nut mate talked of a few years back- we wanted a later model (1990ish shape) 3 door 216 GTi, so we could drop in a B16a unit for a rover VTEC. remove the body kit, drop on some steels and roberts yer fathers brother for the sleeper

are Reanimations quotes from me?
Sounds like me.
I cannot think of one redeming feature this car has. I has a 213S on a C plate and it was just awful. And it was a nearly new car. And it started rusting in all manner of unusual places. No handling, no steering at any speed... terrible body roll. I've driven 1950s cars which have more potential handling wise.
The series 2 cars (wedgy ones) are 100 times better cars.

are Reanimations quotes from me? HaHa thse came from here, but add to the comments for good measure! carsurvey.org/model_Rover+-+Austin_200.htmlI get the point, with the majority saying they are best forgotten and a bit crappy, and extremely well casted in 90's old fuddy duddy sit coms! Still have the urge, but theres a bunch of other stuff i'd rather do first really...

What I like about old cars is that even awful ones can envoke funny memories. There`s some cars owned and favoured by some of the good people on here that I hate(d) with a passion but I still like seeing them and it`s good that it`s not just Aston Martins, E-Types and exotic Italian cars that get saved and looked after. I`m a huge fan of Vauxhalls but they`re not everyone`s cup of tea but that`s what makes this forum what it is because you see such a good variety of makes/models and even ones I didn`t use to like look appealing when they`ve been `done up`.

The series 2 cars (wedgy ones) are 100 times better cars. I had a 216GSi (Honda engine) for FIVE YEARS ;D Metallic blandGrey with a caramac interior. It was what suited me at the time, long story... Wasn't the greatest handling car ever but wasn't too bad. Also, in the five years I had it I only changed the oil once in 80,000 miles and it only let me down once when some coil/ignition-related thing packed up and I had to fit a new one. Utterly reliable, great car for just getting you around

I have definately opened my eye balls a bit wider over the last few years, which is a good thing, even if i do want to trial a wider range of old tat. In approx 2012 when Le Bo11ox Museum opens we can mavel at forgotten old cars without having to actually buy em, hopefully we'll even get change from a ten Euro coin.

Honda Ballade, now theres one for the museum. Super rare, there must be a couple of flat cap jobs still out there. None sold at all on Ebay in the last month. If anyone sees one let me know!

Victor Meldrew type `R` sure has a nice ring to it and would be a blast taking on all the boy racers at the lights. Even better if sprayed hearing aide beige and complete with obligatory tartan rug and nodding dog on back shelf. Come on someone, go for it! you've got me thinking perverted thoughts about the tuneability of the new green 820si (is it a twincam honda?)

I had a 216S a few years back, it was a decent enough hack, comfortable, easy for the missus to drive, but boy could they rot! The 213 had a Honda engine, the 216 had the BL O series.
When I got mine I was looking for a cheap to run car, and my brother knew someone about to px a "213". I bought it sight unseen on his recommendation(It was in Germany, and I wasn't). I arranged to pick it up from the dealers in Lincolnshire the guy was picking his new car up from. When I got there my heart sank when I saw a 216. Still, apart from not running on unleaded it wasn't bad at all, far better than the Mk2 Astra that replaced it.

My Dad had a 216 VDP EFi "E" Plate as a company car - fugging horrid
Leather and all the toys but heavy, slow, fugly and rolled like the General Belgrano. Oh and when you over cooked the corner entry speed the brakes were useless.
fugging horrid and absolutely no redeming features other than when it rained you didn't get wet.
Seeing some potential as described in the posts above but I leave it to someone else I never want to see another one let alone own or drive one.
He returned it to the company after 60K miles on the original tyres brakes and exhaust - I bet someone who bought that at auction was curse word unless they got it real cheap - ex company car, mint and 20K avg miles per year but needs 4 new tyres complete exhaust system and brakes all round!!!!
