Well popped over to a mates house to get the project allagro running. No such luck. Anyone care to listen to the symptoms?
We got it to turn over once, but after that every time you turn the key to fire it up there is a loud click and everything dies, lights the lot. You have to disconnect the battery and reconnect it in order to get any lights on the dash etc etc.
Thinking now is that it might be a shagged starter - thoughts?
Thanks for any advice

I would check for a bad battery connection or bad earth. Clean the battery terminals and the connections. Then fully tighten them. Check teh condition of the engine earth and you could even put a jump lead from the battery -ve to the engine to help.

all of the above!
I'd put starter as the last option, it sounds far more like battery is dud, connections loose or dirty, earth strap problem, main feed wire problem...

the click sounds like the solenoid - dead battery or dud earth again from me.
you have hit the starter with a hammer havent you !? always cured my starting problems.
with all the electrics going down... do you have a short somewhere..?. get yer multimeter out for some continuity testing, its great fun.

tis a manual.
Tbh the earth sounds about right - we only bodged the solenoid on with a (wrong) screw - I know this is what earths the solenoid to the body.
I'll get onto it with a pair of proper screws (and a hammer if it's being naughty)
Thanks gang!
