Hey guys, Long time follower / reader. I'm looking for a lock up, workshop type place in or as close to Oxford as poss. It must have electric, water & be very secure. There are two of us & would need to be big enough to house two cars & have space to work around / on them. I know it's a slim chance as i've been keeping an eye out for roughly a year now but you never know. Cheers.

Me and a friend are in exactly the same situation, We found a unit in little worth, nr Wheatley with electric, water and a 2 post ramp, but it was too expensive just to mess about in!

That would have been good. I wouldn't mind going in with others as long as we could all trust each other & the place was big enough, i'd be ok with that. Somewhere with a ramp would be ideal. The trouble is, Oxford is always going to be expensive compared to other places. What do you consider to be too expensive?

I'm in Oxford , and have also been unsucessfully looking for a couple of years constantly. The property value just means there literally is no where to rent for a reasonable price. I have tried everything , gumtree , dailyinfo , postcards in shopwindows and only had one place to look at and that was a joke , a pheasant shed that you could only stand up in the middle of and he wanted £600 pcm ! I might be interested but , again my concern [ no offence ] is security and trust , and not sudddenly being left to pay the rent on my own . Someone is advertising on gumtree at the moment for a place in Abingdon but again , i can't afford £150 a week for a hobby !!!!

The place in little worth was £500 per month plus bills, I could put you in touch with the guy if you want?

There are a few farms round the bicester area that rent units. I used to rent one near the prison. In general, the further you're prepared to go out of Oxford, the cheaper it will get.
For example: I know the old station gym at RAF Benson was up for rent, split into 3 units. Previous tenants were motor trade I think.
Also, I have a mate near Banbury (about 10 minutes North in Chipping Warden) who has a big barn he'd be glad to rent space in. The facilities aren't perfect, but it's a big dry space with a painted floor, and if he gets more tenants, he'll improve the light and power setup. He also has a 4 post ramp waiting to be delivered, which he'd get done along with the power setup at some point. I guess it'll depend on which end of Oxford you're in, as to which of those are more viable.
If it was me looking, I'd spend half a day driving round the countryside in the local area, looking for farms with signs advertising space to let. You should get some leads that way. Farm units are more likely to dodge business rates too.
I rent a barn just outside Bracknell, so even in the M4 corridor / Thames Valley it can be done.
