Hi guys, I'll use this post as an introduction as well as an overview of my latest and previous projects.
My name's Paul and I'm currently living in Helston, in darkest Cornwall, although I'm a Somerset lad originally. I'm an aircraft techie in the RAF by trade and I've been down here for a few years now, working with the Navy of all people........
I've been lurking on here for a while now and find it so much more open minded and refreshing compared to the 'scene' heavy VW forums I normally frequent.
My daily driver isn't exactly retro, being a standard Bora TDI but we've always had a soft spot for older metal and last week we bought a '94 Polo Coupe from aij29 (Adrian) as advertised on here. More about the Polo in a moment but I thought I'd post some pics of our previous retro rides first.
My first ever car back in the 90's was this '84 MG Metro 1300, not exactly retro back then but worthy of a sentimental thought these days!
Since then I've always had more modern but interesting cars (MG ZS's, a DC5 Teggy, Leon 225 etc....) but my interest in old cars was re-ignited when the wife bought 2 successive Minis:
Next up was a foray into the VW world which we've stuck with ever since starting with a pair of mk2 Golf 8v's:
Along with a slightly more interesting daily/family wagon ;D :
Which brings us nicely onto the Polo. It's been bought as the wife's run around but also as a nice relaxing (I hope!) rolling project for me to act as a bit of therapy following a brain injury I suffered last year. She's very solid with only a few small rust patches and some minor battle scars which I will sort first before getting too carried away. The boot lid needs replacement but Adrian kindly included a mint replacement in the right colour as part of the deal. The overall plan is to have her as a nice clean OEM+ style daily for the wife. I have a set of 14" mk2 Golf 'mini G60' steelies already in the garage which I will refurb and combine with some subtle lows for the overall OEM look. I will also be getting nice and busy with the Scotchbrite and Halfords satin black as and when various brackets, covers and trim get removed! Other than that, she's pretty perfect although I realise that no project is ever finished and I doubt this will be much different! Anyway, enough rambling and onto the pics:
I'd like these to go silver, but I think the wife has other ideas!:
Sorry for the pic heavy post and the ramblings but I hope you like the Polo. Updates will follow as and when so keep an eye out!
