On my Passat from 1994 I have an issue that the ABS lamp on the dash goes on like 50-50 when I start it up. So I guess its time to change one of the ABS sensors. But my question is - On my car I have two ABS sensors (on each front wheel) So who of them is the reason why the ABS lamp goes on?
Any idea how to find out who of them?

Does your speedo have an electric sensor in the diff? I would check your stabilising engine mounts first.
After that dirty connections and clogged trigger rings

first thing is to check both brake lights are working as this can bring the light on.

Is the brake pedal switch working? Is the return pump getting power? Has it got a siezed solenoid? Has one of the pickup rings cracked? Has it got odd sized or over/under inflated tyres? Is the outside temp sender working? All these things can put an abs light on, the best bet would be to read the fault codes before making any assumptions.

You can check sensors by measuring the voltage they generate as you spin the wheels.

What dick says.... also, you will have four sensors, one on each wheel (not just the front)
Fixed a wierd on/off ABS fault on a polo recently - sent to me because it put up no trouble codes...It was a knackered wheelbearing (it was so bad it was moving the sensor ring away from the pickup)

To get a standard A40 this low, you'd have to dig a hole to put it in

I mentioned the engine mount after an issue we had on our old Ford Mondeo. The light would sometimes come on when the engine was started and if you went over a speed bump etc.
The bottom engine mount (for controlling the 'twist' in the engine) was completely shot to the extent that the sleeves fell out when I removed it. That ABS/ESP issue had us chasing our tail for months... I can only guess that the light came on since the ABS sensor speeds did not agree with the gearbox speed sensor when the engine was subjected to movement. It is a rather hopeful theory though I admit!
