gearbox would fit in a porsche 924 or an 89 rx7??? and does anyone know a good company/person that could do this... as the porsche uses a torque tube set up and gearbox is in the boot, this would all have to be junked and a diff fitted along with engine and gearbox mount fabrication???
or do you think its not worth doing...

I have seen one fitted into a sierra before and see no reason why one couldnt be fitted into a 924 or an RX7. Would be quite a lot of work involved and if you were paying someone to do all the work I think it would be pretty damn expensive

I can't see the point. If you want a lump for a 924, the Porsche 2.5 4-potter is readily available and not too expensive.

the 944 engine is not an option as there very underpowered...i have owned a 924s before never again...the s2000 engine is modern technology and very reliable...

Eh?
An S2000 has, what, 220bhp? - at some looney rpm and it gutless unless you're caning it.
Personally, I'd prefer a 944 S2 or Turbo lump.
But I can't stand engines with the power characteristics of the Honda VTECs.

to be honest, most engines will fit in most holes, with varying degrees of work, its not going ot be a bolt in project thats for sure.

There were/are 2 different versions of engine in the S2k. The early cars had slightly less torque than the later (current) models. Both are 240bhp and rev to 9k rpm. I'm sure there are better engines you could choose from though. It won't be easy or cheap to get extra power from an S2k engine. Obviously, i'm a VTEC fan. Twinspark, do you fancy a go in my Prelude

I kinow what to expect from a VTEC engine. It's just that I like something more torquey.
Which is why I prefer the engine in my 75 (2lt TSpark 8v, around 150bhp) to the one in my wife's 156 (2lt TSpark 16v).
Both have variable timing, but the 8v lump is significantly more flexible.

I don't think Vtec engines are lacking in torque when compared with a 16V of similar size its just they can feel it as there is such a difference when the Vtec actually kicks in.
But I agree I don't think an S2000 engine would be my 1st choice when it cam to an engine for an RX7 or a 924. Unless I had one stood there doing nothing.

I don't think I'd use one simply because you could buy a decent SR20DET for less money but if a cheap S2000 motor was available then yeah, I'd go for it. That's not likely to happen though.
While they do have the high rpm power/low bottom end torque characteristic, I believe they still have about 170-ish ft/lb o' torque which isn't bad. It would be a sweet engine for a track car IMO.

i thought the S2000 engine rotates the opposite way compared to most engines, meaning unless you had the rear axle too you'd end up going everywhere mega quickly in reverse?....

vtec is brilliant for everyday cars. as you have the low down useable around town, good mpg and hyper reliability under 5000rpm. then when you want the madness you hold the gear over 5000-9000rpm and it sounds mad, goes mad, scenery goes blurry and mpg goes down appropriately. then just slow down and your back to normal again and all is well behaved. but then i have a b16 vtec engine in my car so I'm slightly bias B16 vtec engine being a 1.6 nasp with hardly any tuning knocking out approx 170bhp redlining at 8400rpm with 150kmiles only just run in. B16 alledgely is the most reliable and most powerful 1.6 non turbo engine ever made... sorry bit of a tangent there! vtec=good. ask any honda owner!
