i have one (yeah yeah it don't spell my name tho ;D)
when i transfer it somewhere else does the original number go back on the vehicle or do i get issued with a fresh one?

It`s the original plate that gets transferred back to the car mate. Hope this helps,

chances are you get the original number back, mate at work has just sold his car that had a private plate (and yes, his did (badly) spell his name! dork...) and it got the original plate back. I think the only time you won't get it is if it's been put on another car, which is unlikely unless it spelt something in which case you wouldn't have swapped it for a private plate Also, my GTE has a northern irish plate (NI car, not just some half-assed attempt at disguising the age) and the old owner applied for a UK plate. DVLA issued a 'K' reg as the car was first registered in the UK in 1993, which the car wore for a few weeks. they then realised it was a 1990 built car that had been in NI for three years so demanded it back and reissued the original NI number.

All 'private plates' seem to read as '0N4N15T' to me. :/
